About the property

Rocky Mountain Cabin with Bohemian style, view of mountains, and close to cities

Adorable, one-of-a-kind mountain cabin in a quiet, mountaintop neighborhood at 8900'. Sip your morning coffee from the front porch while watching the dawn's light hit Mt. Thorodin. Beautiful views of the Continental Divide enjoyed on the property and throughout the neighborhood. Perfect location to easily access both city excitement and mountain adventures.

You will be staying in a beautiful and artistically renovated cabin, using local and organic materials whenever possible. Experience true Rocky Mountain charm in a 1400 sq ft home that's cozy and romantic. Decorated in Bohemian style with a very unique custom design inspired by the natural surroundings of our alpine neighborhood. This beautiful cabin has been chosen as the location for a movie, commercial, wedding, and multiple honeymoons!

Enjoy the view while seated behind the grand piano or strumming one of the guitars, soaking in the fantastic acoustics of the room. Wood burning stove adds to the ambiance with plenty of firewood stacked alongside the house. (There is a central heater with thermostat in the home.) Open the windows to enjoy natural air conditioning provided by the cool and dry mountaintop breeze, with temperatures often much cooler than the lower elevation of Denver. AT&T cell service and unlimited wifi, which is rare in the mountains. Smart TV with XBox, DVD player, and plenty of DVDs. There is a trampoline available for even higher altitude, as well as an axe if you feel inclined to chop your own firewood. Propane grill on the front deck. Plenty of books, toys, and board games available.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking, including a double oven with natural gas stove top, a toaster, microwave, and professional strength blender. A French press, coffee grinder, and drip coffeemaker are all available. We provide local and organic coffee beans from the canyon's coffee shop. Electric hot water kettle with an assortment of teas, including local Celestial Seasonings (my personal fave!) from Boulder, and hot chocolate mix. Breakfast items include eggs, yogurt, granola, pancake mix, and frozen fruit for smoothies. Salt and pepper, olive oil, butter, and many condiments are provided.

The cabin includes three cozy and clean bedrooms, with every bed made up using hotel quality linens. Comfortable mattresses, plush comforters with duvets, and two pillows per person will ensure that everyone sleeps deeply throughout the dark and quiet mountain nights. Dressers and plenty of hangers will give you a place to unpack your suitcase and truly make yourself at home. Blackout shades and extra blankets are in each bedroom. A fan, alarm clock, and nightlight are also provided for your comfort.

The bathroom is well-lit with a large window and plenty of ceiling lights. The dimmer switch softens the mood as you refresh under dual shower heads in the tiled, walk-in shower. Completely relax under the rain shower head after a day exploring the mountains. Your feet will stay warm due to the Radiant in-floor heating as you dry off with plenty of plump, hotel quality towels. Toiletries, a first aid kit, and a hair dryer are located under the sink.

Perched between Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. On a quiet dirt road maintained by the county, accessible with a 2-wheel drive in all but the worst snowstorms. Just down the road from Golden Gate Canyon State Park and Gross Dam Reservoir. Ski at Eldora Resort or explore the fun and interesting mountain town of Nederland, only 15 miles away. World famous rock climbing in Eldorado Springs located 25 minutes away. Only 30 minutes to Boulder and Golden! Drive 27 miles and watch a concert at the renown Red Rocks Amphitheater, 40 minutes away. Unwind in the historic mountain casino towns of Black Hawk and Central City, only 45 minutes away. Take a gorgeous drive through Coal Creek Canyon and connect to the Scenic Peak to Peak Highway 119, full of phenomenal views around every bend. Estes Park, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, is less than an hour and a half away. Only 45 minutes to west Denver, and an hour to Denver International Airport. It's just far and high enough in the mountains (8900 feet) to have a truly alpine feel to it, yet close enough to conduct business in the city when needed.

There is a tiny house on the property that we are frequently staying in. Feel free to say hello!

About Nicole Harkness

Having adventures and traveling are the passions that I pursue in life. I've dreamed of living in the mountains since I was a young girl in Minnesota, so I am excited to share my beautiful and cozy cabin with others who want to experience a taste of life at higher altitude. I spend as much time as possible outdoors with my husband rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing and exploring. Before settling in Colorado we traveled internationally, including New Zealand, Israel, and working at the South Pole, Antarctica. Chris is a rock climbing guide and I enjoy writing and being the home school administrator for our two children.

Nicole Harkness purchased this cabin in 2012

A comfy and stylish cabin in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very nicely-finished and decorated. No cookie-cutter home here. The house has its own personality. There is a lovely baby grand piano and a selection of guitars in the great room for those inclined to strum on the porch. The owners live In another building on the property and are welcoming with a friendly wave but the cabin still feels very private. We’d be delighted to stay there again.

What a wonderful mountain retreat! The moment you enter you feel at peace.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin in June for a little mountain escape before going to a concert in Denver. The location was a perfect drive without I-70 traffic. This is one of the nicest, most well stocked VRBO Units I have been in. The cabin is finished so beautifully and using natural wood and rock, wonderful craftsmanship. The grand piano and guitars made it a fun musical place to relax. Again, I highly recommend this quaint 3 bedroom cabin for a quick escape into the mts.

Incredible property!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is lovely and unique. We loved all the personalized touches from the heated tile floors in the spa inspired bathroom to the rustic kitchen design and the hand crafted beds. The linens far exceeded our expectations- better than many 5 star hotels! Towels were not only soft and fluffy, but smelled amazing! When you first exit your car and enter the house the fresh mountain air is perfumed with fresh cut cedar and wild flowers!

The selection of games and puzzles kept everyone entertained and engaged. There was an adorable hand crafted giant scrabble game we particular enjoyed!

All the pantry and breakfast items were exactly as promised in the listing. We enjoyed the musical instruments available for guests to utilize. And the incredible convection oven and outdoor grill made preparing meals a treat! We would recommend this property to anyone wanting to truly rest, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. It was one of the best experiences we have had in many years of traveling!

Clean mountain air, wildlife, and lots of character. Close to excellent rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and more. My husband is a rock climbing guide in the area and can provide you with an amazing half day climbing adventure! Take a walk around the neighborhood and enjoy spectacular views of the Continental Divide stretching from James Peak to Longs Peak. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a mountain lion, bear, mule deer, turkey, fox, bobcat, elk, or moose crossing your path. Nearby hiking trails accessing the Indian Peaks, as well as excellent opportunities for epic Jeep/ATV tours, snowmobiling, dirt-biking, back country skiing, cross country skiing, resort skiing, ice climbing, alpine climbing, frisbee disc golf, wildlife and wildflower viewing. Between relaxing indoors or finding adventure outdoors, you are sure to enjoy your stay.

There are several restaurants in the canyon, as well as a coffee shop, mechanic, and liquor store. The gas station carries many grocery staples in case you forget to stock up on something.
