About Joanne Devaney
Life's next adventure. For 23yrs I worked in the Corporate Interior Design & Facilities Consulting industry, was an independent Project Management Consultant for 8 yrs, worked at BlackBerry in their Real Estate department maintaining their facilities management systems for 5 yrs and operated my own residential renovations company before relocating to Meaford. My "later in life" goal was to open a B&B. I love the Grey Bruce area. After my son went off to post secondary I started looking around and found the perfect home on the perfect spot. After 10 months of renovations my dream of running a B&B was realized. I'm a down to earth, outdoorsy people person who just happens to love to cook, pamper and entertain. I work part time at a local bank to keep me socialized and connected to the community.
Joanne Devaney purchased this Bungalow in 2016
Why Joanne Devaney chose Meaford
My goal moving north was to have some property and a "must have" was a view of the Bay OR a view of the Mountains. After missing out on a number of other properties this one came up. I never dreamt that I'd have spectacular views of both the Bay AND the Mountains. Another huge benefit was it being a raised bungalow with a walkout to the back of the property. This allowed me to build a fabulous private guest area with lots of natural light and its own outdoor patio and lounge area. It seemed, and is, perfect. I also saw great potential in the gardens and outdoor spaces. I love having areas to congregate and areas to slip away to be alone and reflect or just take in the surroundings. I have many ideas to make the property even more spectacular. Some projects are complete and others are a work in progress. The area has many offerings whether it be the arts, entertainment, fine food, outdoor adventures or just trekking around with a camera or a sketchbook.
What makes this Bungalow unique
I love that I can walk down to the beach any time of year and dip my toe in (and I do). Everyday is truly a new day at The Captain's Quarters. No sunrise is the same, no sunset is the same, each thunderstorm has its own uniqueness. The snow will bury you. The wind will roar. The snow flies up, down, sideways and yes, there are snownado's! And the rainbows, spectacular! There's a natural orchestra of crickets, bullfrogs, cicadas and birds, squirrelys, chipmonks and coyotes. Take in the day, chill by a fire, breath the fresh air and let nature lull you to sleep! Heaven!!

Beautiful scenery, friendly host
We stayed in the lower half of the house which is a back split with plenty of large windows to let in the light. It is clean, modern, beautifully finished with a sloping view of trees and rooftops leading down to Georgian Bay. Absolutely beautiful. Joanne is a very accommodating host. She greeted us warmly when we arrived, offered to cook our dinner, and made us coffee every morning. I hope we get a chance to stay there again sometime. Thanks again!
Steth and friend were great to host!! Very nice pleasant people out to enjoy some quiet time in nature. They took amazing care of TCQ and I would welcome them back any time. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay Steth. Hope to see you again. Cheers, JO
Better than I could ever have Imagined
I have found my new home away from home. Loved every moment and I read and slept so much exactly why I went. Owner Joanne was amazing I will be back many more times the place was exactly like advertised only better
The decor in the property really gives you a great first impression.
That impression just got better and better for us. Joanne is the most amazing person, nothing is too much trouble for her. Fresh coffee in the morning, afternoon nibbles to treat the senses and a beautiful breakfast platter.
She even took her canoes to the lakeside and back for us to use.
Thank you so much Joanne for sharing your wonderful home with us!
Fabulous getaway with perfect host!
We had a wonderful four nights at the Captain's Quarters. The newly renovated lower unit was very comfortable, quiet and clean! Very well appointed with everything you need. Jo provided many kitchen appliances so we prepared our meals there and used the BBQ most nights. Jo is a very welcoming and thoughtful host providing a beautiful and tasty tray of appetizers for us at the end of our cycling days. It is a 7 km bike ride into Meaford (with a few hills that seemed harder on our return) and then we joined the Georgian trail which was very pleasant to ride. We have stayed at many airbnbs and vrbos and this is definitely one of the best!! Wendy S, Kingston
Check out Grey Bruce ATV/Off Road, Snowmobile, Georgian Biking Trail and Bruce Trail (and area) hiking maps online. Park, and go have FUN!! Getting lost isn't a bad thing. You will always find your way back and have great stories to share.
The Meaford Hall is always rocking and there are many town events/festivals etc. Check out their website. Lots of local establishments have food events, live music and activities. Wine tasting at Coffin Ridge. Cider sipping in Thornbury. Short drive to the Village at Blue and everything in between. I will try and keep you posted on what's going on each Month in the area.
