About this property

Orchard Keeper's Private Apt. - Entire Second Floor of 1873 Marlboro Farmhouse

This is a 2 BR/2.5 bath Orchard Keeper's Apartment that occupies the entire second floor of the Marlboro Farmhouse that was built in 1873. We have lovingly renovated this property to provide a relaxing Hudson Valley getaway for your group.

We’re centrally located between Beacon, New Paltz, Kingston, and West Point, and close to many local farms, wineries, and some of the best hiking in the Hudson Valley. If you would like to book both 1st and 2nd floor units together please contact us directly.

Our farmhouse was built in 1873 on part of the original George Weigand homestead, settled in 1744. Nestled at the base of the Marlboro Mountains, the house is well set back from the road, with expansive lawns, a pond and meandering stream that flows through a mature birch grove.

We are lovingly restoring the landscape and gardens at the heart of this historic estate, which includes wetlands hosting many different species of native bird life, and a large reservoir where migrating Canadian geese, cranes, hawks, and other birds are commonly seen.

This completely private second floor apartment is filled with antiques, original details such as French doors, Bay Windows, and wide plank floorboards. We have lovingly curated several book collections so that you may sit in any of several sun-drenched spaces to read, relax, or enjoy conversation.

The open-concept kitchen is fully stocked for your stay at the farmhouse including coffee, spices, and cook books.

The master bedroom has been updated with a few modern touches and features the original floor boards, a queen bed, writing desk, vintage train trunk and fully renovated en-suite bathroom.

The double bedroom, complete with its own en-suite, has one king and one queen bed - great for families, kids, slumber parties, girls weekend getaways, (or the snoring couples of the bunch)...

There is plenty of outdoor space for grilling, picnicking, and entertainment. We have croquet, horseshoes, badminton and plenty of space for other lawn games.

Please Note: This second floor unit is not pet friendly - if you want to bring your dog or a need to accommodate larger groups, the first floor is also available to book and is listed on VRBO #1258065. The third floor is reserved for owner use.

*If you would like to book both 1st and 2nd floor units together please contact us with requested dates.

The base nightly rate includes two guests; each additional guest is $35/person/night. We chose this pricing structure to accommodate parties of all sizes.

Fabulous Farmhouse
This experience exceeded our expectations in every way. The apartment was lovely and very convenient to everything we wanted to do during our Hudson Valley vacation. The kitchen, living space, and bedrooms were comfortable and charming. Whitney and Mark were so attentive and gracious in answering our (many) questions. We cannot recommend this more enthusiastically.

We fell in love with the Hudson River Valley and everything it has to offer including the abundance of wineries, farms, orchards, hiking trails and museums. We love the artistic community in this area and often frequent DI: Beacon, Storm King Art Center, and local galleries and festivals. We have lived across the United States from California, Chicago, Florida, North Carolina, New York City and have now decided to make the Hudson Valley our home. This area provides a coziness and certain slowness that we indulge in as city transplants.

When we found the farmhouse we instantly felt a connection and a duty to restore her to her former glory. The house and property were in quite disarray and we have/are slowly and methodically renovating our way through the house. The house boasts over 7,000 square feet of unique spaces and the grounds have an abundance of cypress trees, meandering grape vines, two ponds and a beautiful stream.

We keep the third floor apartment for ourselves and our two loving dogs; we may be on site during your stay to tend to the gardens and maintenance of the house. If you need assistance with anything we are available 24/7 either through Airbnb or direct text to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Why they chose this property

Marlboro is a wonderful little gem of a town. The little downtown has Franks Deli, Brix Gastropub, The Falcon Music Venue, The Raccoon Saloon... what more do you really need?

For those seeking to explore the rich local heritage of art & history during your stay, there are many institutions within a short drive from the house:

DIA: Beacon is a renowned contemporary art museum directly across the river.

Storm King Art Center is an open-air museum with the largest collection of contemporary outdoor sculptures in the U.S.

Washington’s Headquarters
The Vanderbilt Estate
The Roosevelt Estates
U.S. Military Academy at West Point
Culinary Institute of America
(The brief list here is just some of our favorites; we'd be happy to guide you to many more if that is what interests you)

We are close to the Walkway Over the Hudson and the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, and not far from Lake Minnewaska and Bear Mountain. We are on the Shawangunk Wine trail which includes the following Marlboro wineries: Benmarl, Glorie Farm Winery, Stoutridge Vinyard, Magnanini Winery and Nostrano Vineyards.

A few breweries in the area are Weed Orchards, Bad Seed Cider, Newburgh Brewing Company, Hudson Ale Works, Mill House Brewing Company, The Gluten Free Brewery, Weed Orchards, Blue Collar Brewery, North River Hops and Brewing, Obercreek Brewing Company, 2 Way Brewing Company, Hudson Valley Brewery, and Keegan Ales.

Attractions for families include the Children’s Museum in Poughkeepsie, the historic Gomez Mill House Museum, Rocking Horse Ranch, SSplashdown Beach Waterpark, Stony Kill Farm and Environmental Education Center

What makes this property unique

At night, there is almost no light pollution, and the stars in the sky overhead are stunning... You will hear: frogs in the pond, roosters from the farms down the road, coyotes up on the mountainside, owls in the grove of birch trees, tractors driving past, the orchard horn at noon, Canadian Geese flying overhead... and at night: silence (punctuated softly once in a while by the train whistle from across the river.
