Hobos Pond Get Away is a very natural rural place to get away from it all. It is quiet and very treed. The hobo cottage is set on a bluff overlooking the Englishman River. This is a wonderful place to enjoy total relaxation. We have big trees and lots of fresh air. We love our property and we think you will love it too.
We do everything to make our guests feel happy to be at Hobos Pond.
The cottage has all the modern conveniences that you would need to have a relaxing vacation. The cottage has three queen size beds - two of which are in the loft. There is TV and internet connection in the cottage. Our guests can get on wifi through the internet. There is a state of the art washer and dryer.
On the river side of the cottage we have a large deck which has a large table and big umbrella and comfortable chairs. We have added a new barbecue so guests can grill up delicious meals.
Hobos Pond is a perfect place to get away from it all. You can breathe deeply in our wonderful fresh air. And you can enjoy the evening breezes that come up from the river. In the summer you can also enjoy black starry nights on the patio.
One of the main features of this property is the easy access to beautiful hiking trails along the Englishman River. At the end of the road - about 1000 feet away from our property is a trail that joins with a Nature Trust Provincial park. This trail ends at Top Bridge Provincial Park. At Top Bridge you can cross over the Englishman River on a suspension bridge and enjoy swimming in the pot holes in the river.
Our guests who cycle tell us that we have a good network of single track mountain bike trails about ten minutes from the house. This is just one of the many benefits of choosing Hobos Pond for your get away.
Our guests also have enjoyed renting kayaks and going for a paddle in Nanoose about 30 minute drive from the cottage.
When the weather is warm there are clear, fresh pools for swimming in the Englishman River. Right at our doorstep is a rustic trail to the river. You need to wear sturdy shoes and bring swimming shoes if you have them.
We are a non-smoking property. In the summer our area gets very dry and the danger of fire is high. Please don't come here if you smoke because we don't have an area where we allow smoking. This policy is to ensure the safety of all the people who live in this beautiful area.
When camp fires are allowed you can enjoy a camp fire on our property next to our cottage . We will provide you with some fire wood. Fires are only possible if the fire season allows it. In the summer months risk of wild fire is high.
When you are sitting on our river side deck our guests can enjoy the feeling of being in a tree house. Big trees and massive ferns dominate much of our property. From the deck you can look down into the Englishman River.
The Englishman River is a sparkling clean river. Above our property about two kilometres you can enjoy visiting the Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. This beautiful park is a wonderful place to hike and swim. The bridge across the falls leads to a trail that goes down and across another bridge and comes back to the parking lot. A quick but spectacular hike.
This is a delightful place for children but young children require supervision at all times. We ask that parents be with their small children when they are outside. We are close to the river and we also have a deep, large pond. Children can enjoy the large grassy areas close to the cottage where they can run around freely and play games. We don't have toys as the age range of children who come here makes it impossible to keep and store toys. You might consider bringing tubes and swim shoes as the river bed is rocky. We supply beach towels. And down by the river there is a swing for children to enjoy.
Small and mid-size dogs are welcome but please discuss your pet with us before booking. Pets that chase other critters must be on a leash. Our property abounds in deer and rabbits. We don't allow any of the dangerous dog breeds to come to Hobos Pond. We encourage pet owners to bring beds and toys for their dogs. We prefer pets not sleeping on our furniture. We love dogs and have already enjoyed meeting some very lovely dogs.
We are located a stone's throw from both seaside communities of Parksville and Qualicum Beach. We are midway between the two towns. Our property offers seclusion but is close to all important amenities. Within 20 minutes by car you can be downtown in Parksville and/or Qualicum.
There are many small acreages and local residents raise horses and goats on their properties. There are several very large farms in this area but most families have small acreages. Driving the back roads of Errington is truly delightful. Some of the farmers have been here a long time.
This a rural area backed up against the amazing West Coast wilderness. We are located in the rain shadow of Mount Arrowsmith. We have been told that this rain shadow offers us slightly milder and drier weather. Don't know if it is true but we like to think it is true..
We named our property after a favourite place my husband enjoyed as a child. Just ask him about it and he will tell you the story.
We are approximately 15 minutes by car from the famous Goats on the Roof market. This world famous market is open from early spring until Christmas each year. There is something for everyone at this market - a large ice cream parlor, unusual gifts, foods from foreign lands not to mention handsome goats that love to pose for photos. There is an upscale Italian Restaurant at the market for some fine dining. There is also Mexican food. Everyone should make it a priority to go to the Coombs Country Market. It is a place children and adults can enjoy.
Our guests tell us that the casual restaurant inside of the Market proper has good, reasonably priced food. If you want to splurge there is also an upscale restaurant called Cuckoos.
The Market sells vegetables and fruit and there is a also a wide variety of plants, and herbs.
Hobos Pond Get Away is close (about 5 minute drive) to the Englishman Falls Provincial Park where guests can hike the trails, enjoy picnics and swimming in deep emerald green pools. The falls are spectacular and the trails in the park are breathtakingly beautiful. The park has sites for picnics and clean well cared for washrooms.
We are an easy drive to sandy beaches, parks, museums, art galleries, wild life rescue, provincial and regional parks, swimming, golfing and hiking as well as a few hours by car to the West Coast where there are whale watching expeditions and boat trips to a hot spring. Long Beach on the West Coast is spectacularly beautiful. The West Coast is so magnificent and our guests can take a day trip to visit this amazing place. We also encourage our guests to take day trips to the outer islands. Short ferry rides take you to Denman, Hornby and Quadra Island. Rebecca Spit on Quadra Island is really worth seeing. And having lunch at the old Heriot Bay is a real treat. These are just a few of our favourite places and we would like you to enjoy them too.
We look forward to meeting you and helping you have a wonderful vacation. Come and enjoy this beautiful place with us.
