About this property

Experience the Beauty of Vancouver Island - relax at Hobo's Pond Get Away.

YES - WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
Hobos Pond Get Away is situated in a rural community, a stones through away from the seaside towns of Parksville and Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. Our cottage is located on 5 wooded acres on the Englishman River in the rural community of Errington. The Hobos Pond Cottage is close to the City of Parksville where Hobo guests can enjoy restaurants, gas stations and up scale grocery stores. On Saturday a local farmers market offers fresh flowers and locally grown veggies. A twenty minute drive takes our guest to many popular sites. Guests can enjoy and visit Butterfly World, the Animal Rescue Centre and the world famous Goats on the Roof Market in Coombs. This market draws guests from all over the world.
Our well equipped cottage is located on five semi-wooded acres and is on a bluff overlooking the Englishman River. This well appointed cottage offers guests a peaceful and relaxing place to rewind from the bustle of city life. You can enjoy forest bathig and star gazing. Bring your dogs. They enjoy our peaceful area too.
Our location allows our guests to make day trips to many of Vancouver Islands favourite destinations like Tofino on the West Coast.
Hobos Pond cottage has a rustic trail that in minutes takes guests to the river side where guests can hike for miles along the Englishman River. This is an incredibly beautiful hiking trail. The trail goes through a Nature Trust Park and for guests willing to take a longer hike the hike comes out at an awesome suspension bridge at the Top Bridge Regional Park. This is an amazing park famous for its pot holes in the river. Take a snack and a bottle of water and wear your hiking boots and take this wonderful hike.
Only a five minute car trip takes our guests to the beautiful Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. In twenty minutes of hiking guests can cross the falls and go down to a second bridge and hike back up to the parking lot.
Our comfortable Hobos Pond cottage can host five or six guests comfortably. There is a large deck on the front of the cottage looking down into the Englishman River. A short rustic hike from the deck and you will arrive at the rivers edge. From the rivers edge you can enjoy a swim in the fresh, clean pools in the river or hike a riverside trail through wonderful wooded forest.
Our comfortable cottage offers three queen size beds and is suitable to host between five and six guests. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a washer and dryer. The living room has two leather loungers, a chesterfield and a TV where guests can watch NetFlix or Roku movies. The cottage is equipped with high speed internet suitable for guests who want to work while relaxing at Hobos Pond.
A large deck with a picnic table, barbecue and loungers looks down into clean, clear pools of water in the Englishman River. A rustic trail leads within minutes to the rivers edge and our guests have the options of swimming and/or hiking the trails along the rivers edge.
This comfortable and charming cottage shares the property with our main house but is situated far enough away to provide guests with privacy.
On the main floor of the cottage is a bedroom screened off from the open area kitchen and living room. A very sturdy oak staircase leads to the loft with an additional two queen size beds. The main floor has a full bathroom and the loft has a toilet and sink so guests don't need to take the staircase to use the bathroom at night.
Everyone is welcome. People who come to explore the island and hike, swim, enjoy yoga or just relax love it here.
We welcome small to medium size dogs who are kept on leash until they become familiar with the property. Then they can run around. Our guests tell us that their dogs love it here.
This property has some dangers for small children so we only welcome guests over the age of 12 who can enjoy the property unsupervised.
Come and enjoy this beautiful place with us. Welcome Marlene and Harvey

Wonderful, Peaceful Spot
We had a wonderful time at Hobo's Pond. Harvey and Marlene were lovely, and we had a nice chat with them upon arriving. The area is remote but easily accessible, and the property is lovely and full of life. The cabin itself was exactly what we were looking for: small and cozy, but with all the amenities.

Tranquil paradise
The property is magnificent- quiet, and very private. The river, a short walk away is equally magical and clean. The beach is just a 20 minute drive. The farmer’s market on Saturdays is just down the road. The house is very comfortable and spacious. Great bbq and space to entertain in. The owners/ hosts are such nice people and nearby to help with anything if necessary. We love staying here with our extended family and look forward to each return visit.

We are retired seniors. We purchased this property in 1989 and built the cottage in 1993. Initially, we lived in Burnaby and came to Vancouver Island for holidays and long weekends. We retired to our cottage in 2001. We love Vancouver Island and lived in our cozy little cottage until it felt too small. So we decided to build the main house. We moved into our larger home in 2015. We love living away in such a quiet coastal setting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Although we are in a quiet rural setting we can get to town within a quick car trip. So we don't feel isolated. After moving into our new house, we realized that our cottage was now available to host guests who also wanted to get away to somewhere quiet. The property is named after a pond that Harvey enjoyed as a child.
We invite you enjoy a vacation at Hobo's Pond. We will do everything we can to help you enjoy this beautiful place.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this property because we love nature and we love being beside a river. Harvey has been fishing rivers since he was a child. He enjoys sharing his river fishing experiences with other fly fishermen.

This property has some special features. From our doorstep you can hike all the way to Top Bridge. Regional Park. You can actually hike all the way to Parksville if you are a serious hiker. Top Bridge is a fabulous place with a suspension bridge and pot holes that are a favourite swimming spot for locals and visitors. You can also get to Top Bridge via the main island highway.

The entire hike along the Englishman River is very picturesque. Part of the hike takes you through a Natures Trust Park. There are picnic sites in several locations in this park. For guests who only want to take only a short forest walk we recommend starting the trail at the end of the Englishman River Road (only a few feet from our driveway) and turn left at the junction and follow the trail until you come to the Morrison Creek. This is a short walk but it is picturesque and does not require anything other than running shoes and a hat. Or a walking stick if you have one. You can continue from there but we recommend just trying the short walk first. It is also wise to carry water on any hikes.

What makes this property unique

The hobo cottage is very comfortable; it has a lovely large deck on the river side where you can look down into the Englishman River. The deck has a table and umbrella and a barbecue for guests who like to grill their food. Loungers are for guests who just want to read a book or soak up the forest scenery.

On the property and surrounding area are many native plants indigenous to this area: huckleberries, salmon berries, rose hips, salal, oregon grape, ferns, cedar - fir and hemlock evergreen trees, skunk cabbage, willows and many more. Native ducks make hobos pond their home. In the spring it is delightful to see the mother mallards with their babies and the wood ducks with their wee little ducks.

Even though this property is out of town and in the country it offers the traveler the ability to make quick trips to get food and gas. We are about a twenty minute drive from most modern shopping and amenities. We are 10 minutes from the General Store at Grafton and Englishman River Road where you can buy convenience items, gas and wine and beer. If you order a pizza from Panago Pizza in town they will deliver it to the Errington Store where you can pick it up from the delivery guy.

The cottage has comfortable beds and furniture and the TV has some local stations and Net Flix and Roku. Many of our guest work from the cottage. We have hi-speed internet for those people who combine a get away with work.

We are happy to answer guests questions and are happy to help guests have a great time here. We welcome all our guests to come and enjoy this tranquil place with us. Safe travels Marlene and Harvey
