About this property

Charming Lakefront RETREAT - Private Waterfront with Mountain Views

Fantastic lakeside retreat with all the comforts of home. This is the 1st season we've officially made the Cottage available to others so it has yet to show many traveler reviews. However, we can honestly say that each of our children and their spouses unanimously give it FIVE STARS! :o)

A queen size bed and 5 leather recliners offer plenty of options to kick up your feet and RELAX. Fish the stocked lake for trout or enjoy a campfire as the Grebes, ducks and swans share the lakefront. Mountain views and 200' of waterfront provide plenty for your eyes to enjoy.

Only 47 highway miles separate this adorable escape from Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage...
5 miles from Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and...
4 miles to Mat-Su College.

While the Cottage boasts plenty of lakefront privacy, guests can still enjoy fine or casual dining, shopping and golf all within 10 minutes. The Cottage at Finger Lake is a perfect spot to rest and unwind for a special weekend or an ideal "base-camp" for 1-2 weeks while exploring all that the beautiful Matanuska Valley has to offer.

The Mat-Su Valley is home to world-class salmon, hiking, back country adventures, flight seeing, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, exploring Denali National Park, glacier climbing, historical Iditorod Trail Race Museum, Alaska Native Heritage Center, the Alaska State Fair and so much more. Weather your schedule allows for 2 days or 2 weeks, this jewel on Finger Lake will not disappoint.

Phenomenal Rental Experience
The owners of this property are, without question, the most generous and thoughtful of any that I have come across in my travels. They really go above and beyond to make your vacation experience second to none! Their attention to detail made our stay feel like home as opposed to just another rental property. They had a personalized sign welcoming us to the cottage! Perfect property for our trip to Alaska!

Excellent Service
It was incredibly clean. From the very start, all the way from inquiring about booking the property, Sterling made us feel more than welcome. Him and his wife were incredibly nice people which made the stay all the more comfortable. The decorations and design all came together to make one quaint dwelling to be our temporary home while we went to the Highland games. And though I booked it only a few days before, they were more than happy to make accommodations. Overall I thought the experience was exemplary and highly commendable. I would thoroughly recommend staying here. The attention to details and amenities were immaculate. Thank you for everything!

The best in Palmer
I rented this cabin for my dad and my sister. I was so pleasantly surprised walking in and finding everything that we needed. Sterling and Cheryl were very hospitable and providing everything that one moves away from home. It’s a beautiful lake setting with ducks, Mountain View’s and lake activity. There is no doubt that if we come back to Palmer we will definitely rent again from Cheryl and Sterling!

A great get-away!
This property was clean, well-stocked with food (which was unexpected) and perfectly situated! I couldn't have asked for a better place, and the owners were fantastic with communication. Thanks for such a great stay!

About the host

Hosted by Sterling and Cheryl Grover

Host profile image
Cheryl and I both work locally in healthcare, though we each are "displaced" Farm-Kids: Sterling from Palmer, Alaska and Cheryl from Green Bay, Wisconsin. We absolutely love the Matanuska Valley and Palmer has been part of our family's history since the early 1940's. We have four grown children who continually remind us of the need to stay "young at heart"!

Why they chose this property

While we both love farmland and the majestic mountains, there is NOTHING quite like the peace and tranquility of sitting at the "water's edge". When we met the previous owners of this Cottage, it was love at first sight!
We both knew we wanted to secure and preserve this lakeside retreat for family, friends and guests we could meet from around the world. Seeing our married children's reactions to the Cottage convinced us that it would also be enjoyable to share with others a small piece of this area we call home.

What makes this property unique

With the first few steps into the Cottage you are simply drawn to the windows overlooking the lake. Originally built in 1971, the Cottage was able to avoid the modern building restrictions which require significant "set-backs" from the lake. We absolutely LOVE being so close to the lake. It is truly unique to find a quality "retreat" that is only minutes from ALL the major attractions of the area.
