Update: New Hot Tub for Winter 2015
THE MAIN HOUSE:
Located just outside of Tahoe City, and one block from Lake Tahoe, this Old Tahoe cabin has everything you need to escape city life without roughing it. The Main House features the kitchen, living/dining area, laundry, one large bedroom and two baths. It is furnished with Old Hickory, custom and vintage furnishings. The bedroom includes a sitting area with an antique-style gas fireplace. Additionally, two separate guest cabins (described below) each feature an additional bedroom and bathroom. A great location for the in-laws (don’t tell them we said this) or another couple of kids! (PROPERTY HAS A TOTAL OF THREE BEDROOMS for a total accommodation of SEVEN GUESTS).
Built of local stone and native lodgepole pine, this 1930s home features WIRELESS INTERNET, a new 5-person hot tub, period fixtures, comfortable furnishings, a stone fireplace, log construction, and plenty of charm. The compact kitchen is modern and features a Bosch dishwasher and dual-fuel convection oven/range.
The home sits on a third of an acre and the property connects to the dedicated bike and pedestrian pathway passing through Lake Tahoe, Sunnyside, Homewood, Tahoe City and Truckee. (bring your bikes along)
Off the Main House is a stone patio featuring plantation-grown Teak furniture and a patio heater. This is a great place to BBQ, have dinner, enjoy drinks or just relax under the market umbrella on a sunny afternoon. A few steps away is our hot tub located under a covered patio. There is a third deck with Teak furniture arranged for outdoor living. (deck furnishings for spring, summer & fall)
There are a variety of things to do within walking, biking or skiing distance of our home!
THE GUEST HOUSE:
This is a nice comfortable space for two additional guests. This cabin has one bedroom with a queen bed. It has a full bathroom and closet. It is perfect for a second couple or a grandfather that snores. It is finished in knotty pine and it has an Old Hickory table and chairs for writing or reading, a television with DVD & cable, and a telephone.
THE BOAT HOUSE:
The Boat House is an additional small one bedroom, one bath guest quarters adjacent to the hot tub. It has a set of bunk beds for older kids or whomever wants their own space. The Boat House is located just a few feet from the main house.
A note on the history and architecture of our home:
Years ago locals referred to our home as Casa Chica, or in Spanish vernacular, 'little home' Casa Chica has many of the modern amenities you have come to expect without compromising the classic charm of an Old Tahoe style cabin. The Main House retains most of the original divided-light casement windows and Dutch doors. The log construction, knotty pine walls and vintage Mission and Old Hickory furnishings will remind you of a by-gone era. There are several original Old Tahoe cabins on our street, and the setting is peaceful with beautiful towering trees.

This a great place to own. There are many reasons to stay here, but the proximity to the Lake is always on the top of the list. The large backyard and the beautiful towering trees make this a great place to spend time during any season. We take pride in keeping the house furnished and decorated with comfortable furnishings. As a result, we have many guests that have returned summer after summer or ski trip after ski trip.
Gavin purchased this cabin in 2006
The West Shore is wonderful location, close to recreation, but not overly developed.
You can walk to Hurricane Bay Beach in 4 or 5 minutes or take a cup of morning coffee on a walk through the nature preserve just two blocks from the house.
You will like that we have kept the original charm of this Old Tahoe cabin.
Hi Gavin,
Sorry I'm just now getting to write you back. We left your place and headed straight for Yosemite and didn't get home until late last night.
Thanks so much for letting us spend the week in your lovely cabin. We had a great time exploring the area, and we really appreciated all the tips and info that you gave us. The hike to Eagle Lake was indeed wonderful!
Charming features and so much to do close by - hiking, biking, snow play all within one block. The master bedroom is the most comfortable and cozy spot, with a Thelin stove, big reading chairs and floor-to-ceiling picture windows. The stove even has gnomes on its brass feet.
The only reason we couldn’t give 5 stars is that some things take a little extra thought and effort, such as working in the narrow kitchen, or need a little updating.
As perfect as this place is in the winter, we thought of the benefits of being here spring, summer and fall. It must be a wonderful place to stay year round.
We will miss it and cherish fond memories made here.
We were fortunate enough to have spent 4 glorious days at this home, and it does feel like a well-loved home. It's perfect for a family; having the main house and the two small cottages both w/private baths, was prefect for our family retreat. My favorite though was how all of the rooms led to the wonderful deck outside which was our gathering place for food, games and relaxation. Loved every second of our stay at Casa Chica and can't wait to return in the future. Thank you Gavin, everything was absolutely perfect. Could not have wished for more.
We had a lovely stay at the Casa Chica! The main cabin is very well appointed and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook most of our meals. The bed in the main cabin is quite comfortable with a thick memory foam topper. The 2 "cabinas" were used by our adult children and my mother over our week which worked out nicely for privacy. I recommend this gem of a compound to those with family and friends.
This is a really fun cabin, in the old Tahoe cabin sense. That is, it's constructed with raw timbers in the walls and ceiling - very "cabinee". It is a bit rustic, but it has all the needed amenities for a very comfortable stay. There are three main sleeping areas - the main house, and two detached buildings (each with their own bathrooms). The main house has a nice comfortable bedroom that opens on to the patio. The other two buildings are mainly for sleeping and short hang out time. There really was not anything that we needed that wasn't in the cabin. We had a great time there.
Homeowner was highly responsive when we checked in to find a natural gas leak. He offered us 3 solutions, and we ultimately selected to stay at their additional cabin property next door. It was beautiful as well.
It all worked out fine!
Since it wasn't High Season yet, the traffic from the highway out front wasn't that loud.
We would stay here again.
Casa Chica would be a great place to stay for a group of buddies (my experience), a family, or couple(s). There are three separate functional sleeping quarters, a great yard complete with hot tub and BBQ, and great living space. The owners are super cool and accommodating.
The backyard is a great place for relaxing with friends and family during the spring, summer and fall. The property continues all the way down to West Lake Blvd and connects to the bike/walk trail that leads to the Lake and Tahoe City, Sunnyside and Squaw Valley. Bring your bikes along!
