About this property

Waterfront Home Near Munising on Lost Lake

We invite you to enjoy life in the 906, the telephone area code for the entire Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan, at this waterfront home on Lost Lake. Experience what it’s like to live as a “Yooper,” a true resident of the UP!

Enjoy a cup of coffee in the breakfast nook or out on the back deck overlooking the lake; take a paddle boat or kayak out on the lake (or drill a hole in the ice) to catch a fish; take your sleds out and ride the snowmobile trails all day, then relax in the entertainment room after a long day of exploring Pictured Rocks or the Hiawatha National Forest.

The House and Property:

The 2-car garage, sitting on top of a small hill, is the first building you’ll see. It’s perfect for parking your sleds, other grown-up toys, or your vehicles. The house itself is farther down the hill, and the driveway features a concrete pad and allows for extra car parking or a turnaround spot. Below the wraparound deck is a walk-out basement (not yet ready for visitors) that leads directly to the beach area with a dock, a fire pit, and seating area.

The house has a full kitchen stocked with enough dishes, utensils and cookware to whip up simple meals for your group. A microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender also make it easy for you to grab something on the run if the outdoors is calling you.

This 3-bedroom house has the master bedroom situated on the opposite side of the smaller two, allowing for more privacy. The two smaller bedrooms share a bathroom, while the master has a private one. With a queen bed, two twin beds, and a twin bunk bed/full-size futon combo, six people will have plenty of space. There are also two separate living room/entertainment areas, each with its own queen/full pull-out sleeper sofa, should you need to accommodate a larger group.

Free 15/2 Mbps wifi, Roku, and a DVD player are available if you prefer to settle indoors. The house is set up with a landline phone that has local phone call capabilities. Verizon service has worked here, but depending on your cell phone carrier, your service may be spotty.

If you need to cool down or warm up fast from playing outside in our 4-season playground, there is a water cooler with hot and cold settings, along with a Keurig, at your disposal. The laundry room is also good for popping something into the dryer for a quick warm-up, or to dry your beach towels if you've been swimming all day. We also have "nature's dryer," a clothesline, out back.

Outdoors enthusiasts? You’re just 10 miles from Munising, the gateway to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and it's beautiful all year round! You can't hike very far without stumbling upon one of the ubiquitous waterfalls in this area, and the North Country National Scenic Trail runs right along Lake Superior on its way from North Dakota to Vermont.

Valley Spur is also nearby and offers skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and mountain biking.

Are you into fishing? You’ve got plenty of national forestland, lakes, and streams to accommodate you. But the best-kept secret is our private lake, which boasts some of the best bass fishing in the area (guests have also caught plenty of northern pike and panfish - right off our dock).

In summertime enjoy water activities like swimming, kayaking, and paddle boating, right out your back door. We’ve got people-powered watercraft for your personal use, and also indoor games for kids both large and small, because you never know what type of weather Mother Nature will provide!

For snowmobilers: access hundreds of miles of trails right outside the front door. The Buckhorn Resort is just 3 miles away on the trails or 11 miles via the roads.

Explorers: You may choose to day trip across the UP to Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Kitch-iti-Kipi (the Big Spring), Marquette’s Sugarloaf Mountain, Seney Wildlife Refuge, Mackinac Island, or visit Sault Saint Marie and take a Soo Locks boat tour from your Lost Lake home base.

Whether you're bundled up like a snowman tackling the drifts or down to your swim trunks splashing around our swimming hole, you'll have a blast out here on Lost Lake!

Get lost on Lost Lake
Great location for fishing and snowmobiling(when conditions allow). 1 master angler pike and lots of tip-up flags!! Lots to do!! Casino is not far away. Buckhorn is a great snowmobile destination restaurant. If you like remote, quiet places this is a nice fit!!

Snowmobile trip
Snow was minimal but we made the best of it using side trails and forest roads. We were given the option to switch dates by Kris the host. We kept the reservation and glad we did. Property was awesome clean and in good location. We ate out several times to help out the local businesses. We would definitely consider staying here again and the host was top notch.😃😃😃

Hello! I am a mostly lifelong resident of the UP of Michigan (a "Yooper,"), a self-proclaimed Yooper Ambassador, world traveler, and occasional blogger. My grounded, dependable camera-shy husband Todd enjoys traveling with me on occasion, but he also prefers the more traditional Yooper pastimes of hunting, camping, ice fishing, and snowmobiling.

I enjoy meeting people from all over the world, because I am also a lifelong learner and find that folks from other cultures and walks of life are the best teachers. When in Rome, Russia, or Rio - eat the food, drink the adult beverages, and soak in what it's like to be a local!

Having so far visited all but two continents and experienced so many wonderful cultures, I'm eager to pay it forward and share our little corner of the world as well.

Why they chose this property

Ever since Todd and I married and combined households, I've always wanted to own waterfront property again. In my single days I used to enjoy a nice cup of coffee looking out my back window (or sitting out on the back deck with an adult beverage), staring out at the river and all the wildlife and natural beauty that came with it.

For years, my husband and I would take little boondoggles from camping in the Hiawatha National Forest and explore properties for sale in the area. Munising and Pictured Rocks area has always been a favorite area of mine since I was a little kid. So many trails to hike, waterfalls to explore, wild blueberries to pick, and bodies of water to paddle! It was a way for me to dream about a place to retire out in the woods, a home where I could have my morning coffee ritual and then get the kayak out and explore the lake for a little exercise.

Surprise! Our dream arrived before retirement did. This home was the answer to our wishes, albeit many years early. So we figured, "Why not let other folks enjoy this spot in the meantime, while we're still gearing up for all our future plans?"

What makes this property unique

This area is private and remote, but also only 10 miles away from downtown Munising, the gateway to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - the best of both worlds!
