Owners leave property unlocked. Felt Unsafe. Left w/o Staying.
We had safety concerns at this property and left without entering the house. The roads into the area are rutted and single lane. Several times we had to pull over or into a driveway to let another car or truck pass. From owner: "Old Albany Post Road is a gravel road [usually well maintained – but rutted after heavy rains". After we finally arrived at the house, the car is parked some distance from the house. You must walk over an extremely uneven stone walkway. We were unable to walk safely and carry our suitcases - they cannot be wheeled over the stones. Finally, we decided it was not safe to enter an unlocked house in the evening. From owner: "Front door key is under the raccoon to the left of the front door. Please replace the key under the raccoon as soon as you open the door. It is our only key. If by any chance you find yourself locked out, go to the back door. It is never locked." Had we been informed of these limitations and conditions prior to our being unable to cancel, we would have cancelled our reservation. However, these instructions were not sent until after the no refund date passed. Concerned for our safety, we sought other accommodations which was difficult during leaf peeping season. Owners should ensure the safety of their guests. Leaving houses unlocked is never acceptable.

Woodland Retreat
The woodsy setting was beautiful...quiet and full of colorful Fall foliage. The house was not as expected. There is no outdoor sitting area even though the photographs on the website displayed an outdoor deck. Sitting outside was not possible. The interior of the home had a musty smell throughout. The place did not feel fresh or particularly clean. For example ,the soaps in the showers looked used, floor mats in bathrooms were soiled, and the kitchen sink area had broken used bits of soap and funky sponges. The house and furnishings are very dated.

Fun family weekend
We loved our extra-long weekend at Rima's house, especially dinners on the large screen porch, watching birds take turns at the multiple feeders around the property, playing games around the coffee table in the living room, reading in the chair with views of the rock garden and humming birds, and napping in the hammock on the porch! During the day we explored different towns along the Hudson River but were always happy to come back to the house as night fell, the crickets (?) tuned up their orchestra, and the coyotes called to each other in the distance. This property is a great home base from which to explore the area on foot if you like to hike or in a car if you want to go farther afield. Fun!

We are a psychotherapist in private practice and a professor at NYU. We enjoy hiking on the nearby Appalachian Trail, and playing old time music on guitar and fiddle.

Why they chose this property

Reading or dozing in the hammock on our screened-in porch surrounded by oak, birch, and maple trees. Music of the birds, and absence of city noises. Only an hour from the city, it feels magical.
