About this property

Central Oregon Getaway with Incredible Lake and Mountain views

Views to die for in Central Oregon's high desert. Beautiful, rustic (but very nice) cabin/home situated on 20 acres of untouched land, 17 miles S.E. of Prineville. Three sides of the property abut undeveloped Bureau of Land Management public forest which allows for unobstructed and amazing views of the Prineville Reservoir, volcanic rock formations, and surrounding mountains as far as the eye can see. Watch eagles, hawks, deer, and other wildlife from the porch just a few steps out your front door. Step out at night and you will be enthralled by the brightness of the stars, planets, and Milky Way Galaxy.
This is a wonderful getaway for couples, families, friends, and even business get-togethers. Our cabin features a full kitchen with modern appliances, living room area with fireplace, TV with cable, internet, two full bathrooms, washer/dryer, and garage. The cabin sleeps 8, with a room of 4 bunk beds and two bedrooms with queen-sized beds. The master bedroom features a patio deck, perfect for morning coffee or tea, night caps, or sunbathing in solitude. Onsite activities include horseshoes with a regulation-sized court, slate pool table, darts, swing, bar-b-que grill and a seasonal fire pit. Relax at the end of your day under the night (or day) sky in the private hot tub just off the porch. You will feel totally secluded. Memories of bright blue skies and fresh clean air will linger long after you've ended your stay.
If you are looking for adventure or other outdoor activities to explore, just a mile down the hill is the state park and boat dock and another mile leads to a small resort/marina which has a store and boat rentals. Bike, hike, rock climb, swim, boat, fish, go on spectacular sightseeing expeditions to the Painted Hills or John Day Fossil Beds or just simply stop anywhere in the most incredible surroundings of Oregon's High Desert lands.
Prineville is known as the "doorway" to the pine studded Ochoco Mountains, Ochoco National Forest, and the Crooked River National Grassland. There are good restaurants in town, along with some great little antique, home decor, gift, and clothing shops. You will find several spas, coffee shops, and, of course, really nice people. For a taste of Old Prineville, stop in Prineville Menswear on S. Main where "really good stuff' is available. Lunch at Dad's Cafe next door or have a burger at the Tastee Treat on Highway 26, across from Pioneer Park. Pine Theater is just like yesteryear showing current flicks ($8) and concessions for $2 or under. Although this vacation spot isn't about crowds or malls, the trendy (and friendly) city of Bend, with its wonderful shopping district, is an easy drive 35 minutes from Prineville.

Your pet will be welcome with permission from managemnt and acceptance of the Pet Policy. Please communicate the number of pets with your inquiry. Pets are limited to two dogs and the pet fee will be $50 per pet per stay.

Just as advertised
This was just what we were looking for! A comfortable remote cabin with wilderness views that don't quit! The only thing that might have enhanced our stay would have been to see more wildlife, but I wasn't expecting that to be a guarantee... Perhaps, if we visited during a season other than winter we may have seen more.

Awesome views
It was very clean beautiful views. But.. hard to find got there in dark no lights on. Master bed not comfortable . Need to hav we all you want when you get there its 19 miles back to town. Nothing exceptionally nice for they knew it was my anniversary. For what we paid could of been some kind of a nice token. Also for what we paid for cleaning was ridiculous since we were required to clean and vacuum floors before we left. All they had to do was make a bed. We did floors dishes and laundry and cleaned out fireplace. Crazy

Pete's Cabin is amazing! We so enjoyed the quiet beauty and the amazing scent of Juniper in the air! (So many Juniper tree's!) We also got a HUGE rainbow across the sky while we enjoyed the hot tub. This place is incredible.

Mat and Nicole purchased this property in 2017. Mat retired from a private engineering company as a map maker almost 10 yrs ago. He started his own handyman business at the time and retired from his business about a year ago. Mat enjoys using his handyman skills at Pete's Cabin, updating and improving the property, making tables and lamps from juniper wood found in the surrounding area (you will see these items on the porch and throughout the cabin), and just generally enjoying doing the things he loves to do in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings around Pete's Cabin.
Nicole grew up in Portland and met Mat when they both worked for the same mapping company in Portland. After they had their 2 girls, Nicole decided to return to school to become a registered nurse. She currently works in Portland. They have two college aged children who live in the Pacific Northwest and two cats who still live at home.

Why they chose this property

It is simply beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. If you are looking for a vacation location to "get away" with beautiful views of Central Oregon, this is your place. Mat enjoys adding fun things to keep you busy while at Petes cabin. For example, hanging a comfy hammock where you can read your books or take a snooze, a trail to our new horseshoe pit, and a swing to just "while away the hours". We also really enjoy exploring the area. Hiking all over, visiting the Painted Hills (there is a sample you can see from the porch! ), kayaking at the reservoir, and exploring nearby towns. The little town of Post, Oregon, just 14 miles from the cabin, is Oregon State's geographic center.

What makes this property unique

Star gazing in the hot tub is simply the best. The sky is amazingly large and the stars and planets are so bright. We love looking at the Milky Way and tracking the constellations as they travel across the night sky. Occasional shooting stars certainly add to the enjoyment.
