About this property

The historic Art Deco Hardaway Cottage can host your special event or vacation.

The Hardaway Cottage is a 1933 Georgian style home that was built on the grounds of the historic Roosevelt Warm Springs campus as a vacation home by Mrs. Rebecca Hardaway.

This fascinating home retains its Art Deco cool vibe while allowing guests to enjoy the privacy and beauty of a private setting surrounded by the Georgia State Park system. The spectacular views can be a place to relax on the front porch, grill out back, or unwind with a good book. Spend time cooking, entertaining, or soaking up the amazing history of the area. Often you will spot deer, coyote, chimney swifts, or more.

The house has a living room with fireplace, dining room, eat-in kitchen, three bathrooms and four bedrooms. There is a sun porch/solarium with the most beautiful windows that adjust for any amount of light or breeze. The beautiful open porch across the front of the home can accommodate up to fifty guests. The master suite and bathroom on the main level of the home is handicapped accessible. In fact all areas of the home are ADA compliant. The home sleeps 8/10 guests.

This home is unique in so many ways. The history begins with Rebecca Hardaway who represents the industrial revolution. Her husband had founded the Hardaway Construction Company. After Benjamin Hardaway died Rebecca sold original Coca Cola stock to realize her dream of investing in a dual purpose home in Warm Springs. She already knew and love the area, and in creating the Hardaway Cottage hoped to accommodate both vacationers and people seeking treatment at the newly founded treatment center. Some key features that Rebecca designed are the beautiful marble fireplace, the 1930s tile bathrooms on the second floor of the home, and the rope-pulled elevator. Yes, that is right! and it has been restored to its original working condition.

After the death of Rebecca the home was purchased by the Charles Glenn family. Ms. Glenn had disabling arthritis and Alexander Glenn had polio. Both benefited from the homes innovative design for the use by people with disabilities. Clearly, the family was taking advantage of the treatment available for Alex at the historic polio treatment center. During WWII Dr. Charles Glenn commuted between Warm Springs GA and Oak Ridge TN the secret city where the Atom bomb was developed. The house was home to three daughters in addition to the baby of the family Alex. During WWII the two oldest sisters resided in the home with their "war babies" so the house was full of life and hope during this time.

** The Hardaway has a security camera on the garage that makes activity in the back parking lot visible.

Historical charm with plenty of room
Our family stayed here over Thanksgiving and loved that we had plenty of room for everyone while also getting to stay in a historical house with an interesting history. It was quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed visiting the local sights and town. Being wheelchair accessible was a must for our family and it was amazing to find a house like this that fit the bill. I’d highly recommend for family gatherings.

Sweet owners
Thank you for helping us with last minute addition. It meant a lot that our daughter’s dog did not have to be boarded after his accident.

Family Christmas trip
I booked this house for our annual Christmas trip( we go somewhere different every year) This house was perfect for a big family. The front porch, and sunroom was amazing! Also one room was called the cousins room and it slept all 5 together! The kitchen was big enough to sit around the table drinking our coffee and enjoying the company! I would certainly stay again!

A slice of Americana
Our stay was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Elizabeth was very responsive and the home had it all. This home is very unique and a one of a kind experience. We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Hardaway Cottage!

Historic and Beautiful
We had 9 family members ranging in age from 14-79 years old staying at Hardaway Cottage for 7 nights. The house has been beautifully restored and is furnished in lovely antiques and decorations from the early 1900’s. Additionally, the owner has highlighted the house’s history during the polio epidemic and F.D. Roosevelt’s presidency. The house is surrounded by woods but in the city limits of Warm Springs, so very peaceful and convenient! The house is within walking distance of The Little White House, the Warm Springs polio rehabilitation pools, the quaint downtown of Warm Springs and F.D. Roosevelt State Park and within a 15 minute drive to an Ingles grocery. Additionally, there were several beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails near the house in the state park. The house easily accommodated this large number of people and we did not feel crowded at all. The rooms were quite soundproof, there was plenty of hot water for everyone and the beds were comfy. Callaway Gardens and the Hills and Dales Estate were within a 15-30 minute drive and well worth the visit. Additionally, there were several private breweries and wineries (loved the Warm Springs winery, Nutwood winery and Wild Leap Brewery) in the area that we enjoyed as well as the Animal Safari Park drive through zoo. Our favorite place to eat was Chad’s-definitely buy a cake there! The Bulloch House was also a delicious buffet with typical Southern dishes-try the fried green tomatoes and catfish! Highly recommend!!
