Beacon in the night/day
What a unique and spectacular property! Many VRBO’s are sparsely equipped and win the “best brochure” contest but this unique stay is exactly as billed. In fact it is more, there are little touches throughout the property which are tasteful and thoughtful. Everything you need whether you are there for fishing, sightseeing or some privacy, this is your spot. Teal and Mike are gracious and responsive hosts and Alison and John make sure you are well taken care of. Whether you get joy from a great facial mist or grapefruit shampoo or like to slap a ssome fresh caught fish on the grill and enjoy the exquisite surroundings, you’re going to enjoy it here. I love cooking and the spice collection and high end cooking utensils were much appreciated. Thanks to all for a great stay and we will be back!

Privacy and Relaxation
Property is beautiful and secluded to its very own island! Fishing from shore was bountiful for rock fish. My two daughters, wife and myself loved rummaging through the wade pools and exploring all the little novelties the island has to offer! We will be back!

Amazing unique private island experience
We stayed at the lighthouse 9 days in early May. It was as advertised – amazing. A truly unique and beautiful place to stay with a degree of privacy you just can’t find anywhere else. The boat commute from town to the dock was quick and easy, and the outboard motor has an electric starter. The lighthouse itself has it all – a firepit and hot tub on the deck, a fully stocked kitchen, master bedroom, 4 bunk bedroom, and an observation floor on top with 360 views of the island and ocean. It has been fully redone and updated. We had the benefit of rain, so water was not an issue, but during a dry stint you might have to be careful about water usage; the water comes from a water catchment system. We planned lots of activities in and around town, but some days just being on the island and in the lighthouse was all the entertainment we needed. Between the deck, the dock, the rocks and the swing outside, it was a mini kid-paradise. Teal was great to work with – very responsive and no nonsense. Going above and beyond, she found and booked us a private King Salmon fishing charter last minute that was spectacular. We will be back.

Why they chose this property

A Stay to Remember

Lighthouses have long inspired fascination, but getting to sleep in one is a special treat. Staying in this one in Southeast Alaska ups the ante by offering a wonderfully unique way to see wildlife and explore a tranquil island, a five-minute water taxi ride from Sitka.

A Labor of Love, and a 24-7 Beacon

The lighthouse was first built in 1983—a labor of love by Burgess Bauder, a local veterinarian with an incredible talent for building and design, who spent 18 months hulling the wood and constructing the lighthouse by himself, on the high point of a one-acre private island. With its red light on top, the lighthouse was registered with the Coast Guard and still acts as a navigational beacon.

Since its inception, the lighthouse has also functioned as a vacation rental and was recently bought by new owners Teal and Mike ‚who have known Bauder for years. They have given it a fresh update—debuting for the 2018 summer season—and continue offering it for vacation rentals as well as weddings, honeymoons, and business retreats.

Indeed, this makes a great place for everyone to focus on discussions while bonding over the spectacular scenery for a small business retreat. If you want to have a wedding here, you can’t do better for an “aisle” than the catwalk that extends off one of the decks, which leads out to a point with a circular deck, with the waves crashing up all around.

What makes this property unique

Complete privacy and ability to social distance on the island if preferred. For guests wanting complete privacy, we can provide that for you.
