The city of Tahlequah, located 20 minutes away and is part of the "Green Country" region of Oklahoma and was established as the capital of the 19th century Cherokee Nation in 1893, as part of the new settlement in Indian Territory after the Trail of Tears. The current and present Cherokee Complex can be toured as well as the old court house, cultural center, old jail, art galleries, restaurant and gift shops. While there is much history to see and experience, the town of Tahlequah also offers movie theaters, live theater, a jazz lab, 2 golf courses, antiques, quaint parks, casino, shopping, antiques, restaurants and coffee shops. Tahlequah is also home to Northeastern State University and has that college vibe on the north end of town.

Another one of Tahlequah's biggest outdoor attractions is the scenic Illinois River, which is home to over 60 miles of breathtaking landscapes. Floating is one of the biggest recreational activities available. Depending on your preference, you may float by raft, kayak or canoe.

We needed a place for our whole family to escape to and just have a great time together! This was the place! It was like a home away from home! The hosts checked on us and we could feel the love in the house!

We have been at the Bay House for 32 years, raised our family here and enjoyed this beautiful area. When we became empty nesters we opted for a smaller place, but wanted others to be able to experience our little piece of paradise. We hope you will consider staying here and vacationing. There is so much see and do. We would love to host you.

Why they chose this property

We often came from Kansas to this area to vacation on the Illinois River and Lake Tenkiller. It had the best of both worlds. We love floating the river and boating on the lake. We knew this was where we wanted to live. We purchased this house and over the years the house was remodeled and became much more spacious and family accomodating. We have put a lot of work into our yard and created a well maintained park-like environment. Its just a great place to relax and enjoy family and friends.
