Alfred House
We stayed at the Alfred House for a month. It was an amazing home away from home...cozy, comfy bed, and a well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the many architectural finishes this apartment had. Thank You Sylva & Mark

Lucky Find in Troy, NY
We felt very lucky to find this great apartment in Troy, NY. We were traveling from up north to NYC when the roads became bad. Fortunately, we were able to reach out to this new to the market apartment. It is in a neighborhood of great brownstones from another time. Sylva and Mark, the hosts, live next door and met us with the key. There was free parking just outside and the area seemed very safe and family oriented. And the architecture of the houses was wonderful! The weather was snowy and very cold outside, but the apartment is cozy with it's own thermostat. You have your own entrance to your apartment, but the hallway when you enter the building is shared with other visitors. It is a majestic, Victorian hallway! Sylva and Mark are continuing to bring it back to its former days!! Really a treat to see! And look out the side windows when you are in the apartment. There are lovely stain glasses circle windows in the building next door. There was everything I needed to be comfortable. The bed is comfy and sheets very nice! A Keurig is available for coffee. And there was good herbal tea. For the entire stay my big complaint was no black tea, and Sylva assured me that next time we visit it will be there. And we do want to come back. We walked around the neighborhood and found a great walking path on the Hudson River. There were several good restaurants within very short walking distance, and many more less than 1/2 a mile. We checked out Dinosaur Barbeque just down the street (.2 miles) on the river. And within a .5 miles were two lovely local coffee houses and yes a tea house (The Whistling Kettle). It would have been great to stay longer!! Thanks for your hospitality on a cold wintery night! Rebecca and Kent

Hi, I'm Sylva. I'm an RN but I spend my days homeschooling our two children and on property management. My husband Mark is a software business owner right here in Troy. We travel regularly for work and pleasure, and want to make your stays are as quiet, clean, and comfortable as we ourselves like.

We're raising our kids here in Troy with the opportunity to have the close community that a small friendly city offers, to live, work, and play urban, and to be accessible to the outdoor wilds of the Capital District and beyond.

Walk outside on pleasant evenings and you might be serenaded by Mark playing ukulele or guitar on the stoop next door - we live right here. Depending on the day, come by for a free ukulele lesson or jam with both of us at our monthly ukulele meetup.

We took over managing the properties from Mark's father in 2011, and have been slowly working on upgrading and improving the apartments and buildings ever since. Menard Properties LLC

Why they chose this property

We are glad to introduce you to 2174 Fifth Ave, or “The Alfred”, in historic Troy, New York.

This three-story brownstone has been in our family for three generations, and we are happy to welcome you to the neighborhood. Mark's father Al was a fixture in the Capital District, playing the organ at Guptill's Rollerskating Arena (largest roller-rink in the world!) and other surrounding establishments. He even had his own TV show at one point. Sylva, too, has family ancestors who lived in Troy before moving west. Our family history is steeped in Troy.

Our neighborhood is one block north of the great fire of Troyibald 1862. The property is part of the original Van Rensselaer subdivision, though the details and history are lost to time and fire as the deeds and titles burned at the county record building.

What makes this property unique

This second floor apartment is bright and cheery, with a cozy feel and comfortable furniture. It has everything you need to work in the kitchen (sharp knives and even a cast iron pan for eggs!). There's coffee and tea, snacks, condiments and spices. Around the apartment, you'll find several local photos that Alfred himself took in the 1940s and 1950s.

This space is perfect for vacation or business travel, family trips, and also extended stays.

Come Enjoy Troy too.
