About this property

Castelnau Nature et Sports

It is located between Saint-Quentin-le-Poterie (3 km away) and Vallabrix (2 km away); it is only 10 minutes away from Uzès, city of art and history (7 km away). The domain of Castelnau used to be a farming property which has belonged to the same family since the XVIIth century. The domain has its proper winery which produces high-quality wines (Duché d'Uzès, a protected designation of origin).
It faces the hills of Uzès, and was built among the vineyards, the fields, and the garrigue. It is an ideal place for Nature lovers who seek peace.

All around the domain, you will find hiking and biking trails going through the garrigue.

The house was built during the XVIIth century; it is attached to a mansion and surrounded with plants. A splendid alley of chestnut trees leads to a square courtyard which is surrounded with beautiful century-old cedars in which many birds and squirrels live.

This 10 ha property is situated in the middle of a 70 ha farming land. All the equipments you need to have fun are available: swimming pool, tennis courts, volleyball, swings, trapeze, bicycles, trampoline... Many outdoor activities are also available such as table tennis, bocce, or badminton.

The house consists of a large and comfortable apartment (Red Castelnau) with 5 bedrooms (sleep 10), three bathrooms, a living area, a living room, a kitchen, and a kitchenette.
The south facing apartment is located on the first floor of the house; it overlooks the square courtyard and the surrounding countryside. There is a large vaulted room with an old bread oven on the ground floor which can be used as a convivial playroom (there are books and toys for children).
The laundry room is equipped with a washing machine and a dryer.

An outbuilding can be made available upon request and for an additional cost (Rosé Castelnau). It is located in front of the apartment, in the same courtyard, and consists of 2 bedrooms (sleep 4), a living area, a kitchenette, and a bathroom.

Therefore, one or several families can live together but also independently. It is perfect for a family holiday gathering several generations.

You will find many quality shops and supermarkets in Uzès and Saint-Quentin. You can find all the local products in the two main weekly markets which are very lively and popular.

The house is rented alone for 10 to 11 people or with the outbuilding for 14 to 15 people. The outbuilding cannot be rented without the house, which guarantees the peace of our guests.

Fantastic
We had 9 lovely days holiday at this beautiful property. The location is wonderful and the facilities such as the pool and tennis court were great. Our hosts Bruno and Monique were charming and nothing was to much trouble. The kids loved the place as did we and we look forward to returning next summer.

Absolutely perfect!
We were a family of 9 people and 3 generations and every one of us had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful and the surroundings are perfect for anyone who wants to be away from it all in idyllic countryside yet not too far from town. We spent our days walking in the woods, shopping in Uzes, playing tennis, swimming in the pool, playing pétanque or wandering down the little country lanes. It was the perfect country holiday- we couldn't have wished for more. Every one of us was sad to leave and there were tears on departure. The best of it all was our wonderful hosts Monique and Bruno; some of the nicest people one could meet. They made us feel at home, relaxed and comfortable and left us wanting for nothing. They were amazing with everyone, even the littlest of us. And a big thank you to Arthur and Capoucine as well for making us feel at home! We leave with warm and fond memories of our stay in Castelnau and feeling very privilege to have been able to stay in such a wonderful place

We used to work for international organisations and we have lived on many different continents before coming back to France after we retired. We have 3 grown-up children and 7 grandchildren. We settled in Uzège in 2011.

We can speak English and we have a passive knowledge of German and Spanish.

Why they chose this property

We bought the domain to make it our family property after travelling the whole world. Our goal was to gather our children and grandchildren in a convivial and comfortable house.

We chose this region for the sunny weather, the beauty of the landscapes, the historical past of the place, the many cultural sites, and the easy access (it is close to motorways, TGV train stations, and airports). It is a tourist region which kept all its authenticity.

We fell in love with the property which has plenty of character, is located in a splendid setting, and has great potential for our family project. The vineyard on the property would allow us to revive our family's wine-growing tradition.

What makes this property unique

Large adjustable and comfortable family house
Peace of the countryside
Natural places, hiking and biking trails all around the domain
Sport and fun activities in the domain
Charming and cultural towns and villages nearby (Pont du Gard, Avignon, Nîmes, Arles)
Well-known local markets (Uzès), local products, good restaurants
A sunny place between sea (Camargue) and mountains (Cévennes nearby)
Easy access (by car, train, or plane)
