About this property

Two Custom Waterfront Adjoining Homes sleep 36 people- Great for large groups!

We live in this paradise and are very excited to share our two beautiful custom built homes with you. The homes are next to each other so this provides a UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR LARGE REUNIONS, RETREATS, SKI TEAMS, AND OTHER LARGE GROUPS TO GATHER IN A SPACIOUS SETTING.
The "White House" (VRBO listing number 1137385) sleeps 20 people and the "Green House" (VRBO listing Number 579844) sleeps 16. (You may reserve one or both of them together) Both are custom, high quality homes built with high ceilings and floor to ceiling rock fireplaces inside, and you have access to two docks between the two properties. One is in the open and you can see it from both homes while the other is in a secluded, shaded, treed area.
Imagine starting your day sipping coffee (or tea) on the deck overlooking the water, listening to the birds sing good morning, and watching the eagles soar overhead. Dream of jumping on a pontoon boat or canoe and relaxing out on the lake nurturing your soul with the panoramic view of the lake, mountains, and wildlife around you. For the adventurous ones in the group, there is jet skiing, mountain biking, roller coasters at Silverwood Amusement Park in the summer or downhill skiing at Schweitzer Mountain or snowmobiling in the winter.
Sandpoint has earned many awards for the vacation place to visit! Check out Sandpoint's chamber of commerce website under 10 amazing places. The hosts are very kind, so kind that they almost stay with you the entire time
We came here for a long-awaited family reunion, group of 30 people including kids. Location is great. Houses left much to be desired. White house: carpets need replacing. Couches worn out. Pool table sticks slightly bent & ping pong rackets broken/damaged, net hardware was broken. Dining room table(without glass) shaky & chair cushions were depressed. Hot tubs quickly became slimy. 1 of kitchen drawers came out easily almost smashing toes. Water pressure was weak. Bunk beds in laundry rooms& top bunk mattress had urine stains. Green house: Table sturdy & spacious. Front right burner on stove needs fixing. On last morning, water turned orange after turning off. Gross. Dock's railing is too long & a few kids hit their heads. WiFi coverage was unreliable, with spotty signals in both houses. Prior to arriving, we read the review left 7/23. We assumed they exaggerated when mentioning almost daily interactions with hosts. Upon arrival we were shocked that hosts lived next to house/RV in driveway. We understand hosts’ concern for their properties, but lack of privacy made us uncomfortable. Once, host was on neighbor house back lawn watching us. Everyday they drive/walk/bike past watching our us. While packing, hosts were watching & waiting for us to leave when we had 2 hrs to checkout. While idea of renting out homes for income is great, trust is vital. We would have liked to leave a better review, we want success for owners, but lack of trust is a significant issue.

Wonderful family reunion
There were 23 of us, ages 9 to 80, who spent a perfect week at Mick and LaDette’s. Having the two houses next to each other was ideal. The accommodations were spacious, clean, and comfortable. The kitchens were well stocked. The pool tables and ping pong table got a lot of use. Having two hot tubs was also a treat. The lake is delightful and not crowded and not too cold. I highly recommend renting their pontoon boat. We used it two or three times a day. LaDette was always quick to respond to any questions from the moment we booked. We made some wonderful memories.

I wish I could give a better review of our experience. It is a gorgeous area and the homes are in a great location -quiet, easy access to amenities. But, though the hosts were friendly and helpful with questions prior to our arrival, our experience on site was disappointing. Unknown prior to arriving is that the owners live on site in their RV. It was not a "no in-person check in and check out" as was listed, and we interacted with the hosts 6 out of 7 days. Particularly disappointing, however, was that the White House had no hot water upon arrival and was not fixed until the 4th day. The maintenance records indicated this was not a new issue and an old system in need of replacement. The hosts oddly lacked urgency about it, saying everyone could just use the facilities at the Green House. Not only was this unacceptable for the money and expectations of a vacation VRBO, this was impractical with 7 very young children on different schedules, unable to wash dishes, etc. We had family pictures on Day 3 and several had not been able to shower. The White House needed some TLC, the plastic lawn chairs were old (2 broke with people seated) and the internet was erratic. The Green House is lovely, likely due to the hosts living there when not rented. Being with family was great, we enjoyed the yards and the water, but these inadequacies shadowed an eagerly anticipated gathering. We followed the check out procedures but the owners/hosts also checked us in and out.

Great property with amazing Host and Hostess
This was a beautiful property with access to Lake Pend Orielle. We rented both homes for the week that nicely accommodated our family of 22 adults and 9 children for a family reunion. Both kitchens were fully stocked to cook, serve and bake, plenty of cold storage with two refrigerators with freezers in both homes. We enjoyed time on both decks, each had a hot tub. Canoes were provided by owner along with life jackets. Our host and hostess live in an rv on the property and were readily available to answer any questions and to address normal maintenance requests. We enjoyed just hanging out, puzzles, playing boardgames and sharing meals together. We also enjoyed time in Sandpoint at the City Beach, hiking Gold Hill, and shopping. There was a fire pit at the green house so we enjoyed smores on our final night together. The weather was perfect, warm with just one afternoon with thunderstorms. We loved our time and highly recommend this property!

Great Location, amenities, and hosts!
Our family retreat had 12 adults and 12 children and this two-home combo was the perfect match to our needs. Large kitchens, living spaces and plenty of beds for everyone. We recommend renting the pontoon boat - it made for great adventures to beaches and swimming spots around the lake. And Mick and LeDette were attentive and helpful all week. 5 out of 5!

About the host

Hosted by Mick Reina and LeDette Kelton Reina

Host profile image
We were both born in Alaska, but did not meet until a few years ago. LeDette was raised on a homestead in Wasilla, Alaska before moving down to the states with her farming family. After graduating with her masters degree she became a teacher and raised three beautiful girls. Meanwhile, Mick was raised on the Oregon Coast and went to Alaska every summer to visit his dad and work construction. He raised his four incredible daughters here by the lake, taking his family to Alaska each summer to run his commercial fishing operation in Bristol Bay for 23 years. Every winter he'd return to Sandpoint to live and raise his girls. Currently, LeDette teaches fourth grade and Mick is a commercial and residential building inspector in Sandpoint. He enjoyed flying his airplane to Alaska every year and now enjoys flying to remote areas here in North Idaho. His hobbies include flying, four wheeling, motorcycle riding, fishing and hiking in Sandpoint and Alaska. He also enjoys snow skiing and golfing here locally. LeDette enjoys flying, boating, hiking, dancing, reading, laughing, and spending time with family and friends. Mick bought his first home on this site and had both custom homes built. We just bought back the white house he built 17 years ago, and want others to enjoy our homes as we do! Before Mick moved here in in 1985, he spent two years looking for the perfect place to raise his family. He'll never forget the feeling he had the first time he crossed the long bridge and saw Sandpoint for the first time. He knew this was where he wanted to be. When LeDette visited friends here, she knew this was were she wanted to live and retire. Sandpoint has most of what Alaska has to offer with better weather, four seasons to enjoy, and is located near so many different kinds of cultural and fun events. The people here are very friendly and the quality of life is amazing. We look forward to talking with you about renting our home and helping make your experience the best

Why they chose this property

We both love the water, mountains, and countryside full of trees and wildlife having come from Alaska. Lake Pend Orielle is breathtaking, but if you dock a boat or float plane on a dock on the lake, it can actually sink. These properties give the best of both worlds-the water, mountain, and countryside view with a personal dock to safely moor our boat. The large, wide channel provides us a way to take our water toys out on the big lake if it is calm or down the river if it is a little choppy. This location is right at the mouth of both! We feel safe letting the young children play in the water and canoeing around here.
Also, these homes are located on a dead end road so we do not get traffic, and we know all of our neighbors. It is a safe walking and biking neighborhood where everyone looks out for one another.
Last of all, the location is perfect! We do not want to be in town, but it is close enough for Mick to run to the grocery store in 4 minutes when LeDette forgot an important ingredient for a special meal. The drive is not only quick, but easy. No steep icy roads to drive up or down and skid off of , and no curves and long country scenic roads for deer to jump out in front of your car.
Last of all, Mick bought the land and built these two homes so they are high quality sturdy homes built for a family to live in. We appreciate beauty outside, as well as inside. The wooden Brazilian Cherry floors in the green house with the beautiful granite counter tops and majestic fire place take my breath away and invite me in after a long day. The spacious vaulted ceilings and gorgeous windows in the white house invite me to look outside and feel like the water and green trees are part of my living area.
This is our idea of heaven on earth.

What makes this property unique

There are many homes in Sandpoint. However, the benefits of these homes are:
1. Location - Our homes are located in a beautiful, private, safe neighborhood close to everything ! The paved roads are easy to drive, hike, or bike to Sandpoint. Many other homes are 20-30 minutes out of town on curvy roads with deer that hit your car, or in the winter, covered with snow and ice. Mountain homes have fabulous views, but steep winding roads that are dangerous at night or in the winter with snow and ice too. We like all our parking for vehicles and Mick's toys and trailers! The five car garage is a big plus for Mick and we use the complete RV hook-ups as well.
2. Economical - We looked for space for guests for our wedding and wanted everyone close together in a nice place where they could afford to stay. Also, we are all about family and owning these two homes makes it easy when we have our large family of seven girls come, and as the family grows, we are ready! (We can bless others with only $27 PER PERSON a night for our guests (plus taxes and fees).
3. BEAUTIFUL HIGH QUALITY- We appreciate the beauty of the area outside and inside our home as well. I feel happy walking on shiny wooden cherry floors or looking out the arched windows. The glass in the doors is artistic and I love surrounding myself with beautiful things and people with beautiful hearts. In the winter or a cold rainy night, we love warming up in the jet tub, hot tub, or snuggling together. This is the "Good Stuff."
4. SAFE- Not only is the neighborhood safe but it is safe to swim here and to moor your boat. For more information boat rentals contact owner after booking the home.
