About this property

Great location in the village. Dog friendly! Spring and early summer discount.

This recently remodeled home is in the village of Northport, just 2 blocks from "downtown" and is a vacation rental which opened in July of 2017. Please also see our other property in Northport, # 731696 for reviews, as it will give you information on how sparkling clean and nice our homes are.
This large home in the village is called "Driftwood". It has a big driftwood fish hung above the mantle, as well as other driftwood pieces, both inside and out. The owner found the "fish" wedged under a rock in Lake Michigan. The fish piece is part of an old ship and the lake shaped it into what appears to be a big fish.
The house is a very airy and comfortable, 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home with large yard and patio. The street is quiet and not busy, so great for kids. Home has been extensively remodeled with new kitchen, new flooring ( tile, wood and carpeting). Furnished tastefully with new living and dining room furnishings. Bathrooms have updated and freshly painted with new fixtures as well. Master bedroom with private full bath is downstairs (new queen bed). There is also a second bedroom downstairs (full size bed). There is an additional full bath on the first floor. .Both full baths have tub/shower which are great for bathing the kiddos. Plenty of towels provided. Upstairs are two large bedrooms and the largest of the two has a half bath. One of the upstairs rooms has a queen bed and the other has three singles. The half bath is in the one with the three single beds. Master suite(downstairs) has a queen bed and the other lower bedroom has a full bed. he upstairs bedrooms have window A/C units. Downstairs bedrooms have ceiling fans. The home has a large laundry/mud room with front loading washer and dryer as well as washtub and plenty of closet space. There are several closets so no shortage of places to hang clothes up. Outdoors there is a large yard and patio. Patio has gas grill and charcoal Weber for those who enjoy charcoal grilling. Patio has table for four and additional chairs are provided. Nice gardens surround the home. This home is on a quiet street with very little through traffic. The yard has plenty of sun but also plenty of shade as well with large oak trees. Very private back yard. Driveway can accommodate 3-4 vehicles and there is plenty of street parking. It is 2 blocks from "downtown" and an easy walk to the marina park, brew pub, grocery store, restaurants and shops are just a few short blocks away. Nine hole public golf course in the village is less than 5 minute drive. The fourth of July is really festive in Northport with music in the marina park and spectacular fireworks. There is also music in the park every Friday evening in the summer, so bring your bag chairs! NOTE- WE ALLOW ONE DOG UPON PRE-APPROVAL AND PET FEE IS $100.00

Cozy Leelanau Stay
We traveled for 3 nights in Northport. This is wonderful property with in a great location. Family of 4 with a small dog. ***tall people warning: I’m 6’5 and if I didn’t slightly duck going into the family room and bedroom I would hit my head.

Close and convenient
The house was amazing and everything was within walking distance. The deck has multiple levels that were difficult to maneuver in the dark, but not in the daylight! Some additional lighting could easily remedy that.

Quiet get away
The home is well taken care of, one of the cleanest properties I have ever been. North port is a quiet alternative to the hustle of the surrounding towns. We will book again

Severe health issues after stay
I am sorry to have to write this review. I normally let bad events just go, but because I am so sick I couldn’t just ignore this one. We turned on the heat, which is located in the basement, one cold night and out of the 8 of us staying in the home, 6 of us all had various extreme issues - vertigo, sore throats, coughing, breathing problems, within an hour of the system being turned on. My elderly mother and myself all have gotten the most severe effects and we were both sleeping on the main level. We were also the ones that decided to stay. 5 others in our group left since they had other arrangements. Once we figured out that the hvac system was most likely the cause we turned it off thinking we would be ok and decided to remain in the house. We were in the area for my dad’s funeral and really had nowhere else to go. It was a bad idea to stay. Since leaving this house my mother and I have been severely ill. I have had constant histamine reactions to everything. I have been to the ER and to multiple doctors since and so has my mother. I have not been getting better. All doctors I have talked with have all asked me if I have talked to the owner of the house. I have. My mother lost her hearing for many weeks and continues to have inner ear, vomiting and bowel issues. If you have any kind of allergies, or not, I would highly suggest NOT staying at this property unless major changes have been made since our stay. So sorry this happened but it looks like this will be an “event”, as the doctors are titling it, that will effect the rest of my life. There is no recourse for us and we cannot prove that this house is for sure the cause, but after multiple people got sick on the same night we have suspected the house to be to blame.

About the host

Our names are John and Carol Lesperance. We are both retired and work occasionally at odd jobs. John also maintains his real estate license and does some property management. We live nearby and love the outdoors! We enjoy hiking, biking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and swimming. We moved to Leelanau county from San Diego in 1994 but are both born and raise Michiganders.

Why they chose this property

We love the village of Northport! It is charming, warm and inviting and is not over run with tourists like some of the other towns in Leelanau county. It is a beautiful village to just stroll around and look at the beautiful gardens and nice neighborhoods. It is not simply a resort town as it has a fair share of local residents as well. It is picturesque and looks as if it is in New England versus northern Michigan.

What makes this property unique

Because of the location, everything is walkable, including the grocery store which is 3 blocks away. Suttons Bay is just 12 miles south, Leland (Fishtown) 12 miles southeast and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is 30 minutes away. Traverse City is 30 miles south. There are many vineyards in Leelanau county and wine tasting trips are a great way to spend an afternoon.
