About this property

Spacious Victorian Home on Private Grounds in Narragansett Pier

Built in 1889, the Wheelhouse is a historic Victorian home in a private and convenient Narragansett Pier location. A tasteful exterior renovation was completed in 2021 while keeping true to the Victorian charm that Narragansett is known for. A stone's throw to Sprague Park, which is a great family park and playground, and direct access to the South County Bike Path makes this home an ideal spot for families. The half-acre tree-lined property has a large and private backyard and parking for 6 cars. The outdoor shower, wrap-around covered porch, open deck, and Weber gas grill make this home a great summertime retreat or offseason destination for a weekend get-away. With over 2800 square feet of living space, you're sure to have plenty of room to relax and enjoy your time in beautiful Narragansett. The home is completed with updated, modern amenities including a renovated kitchen with stainless appliances, central air conditioning installed in 2023, six Narragansett Town Beach passes, wireless internet, Smart TV, coolers and beach chairs, and everything to make your trip to the beach a great one. We also provide professionally cleaned linens for all beds, which includes sheets, duvet cover and comforter, pillow cases and pillows, so no need to pack those items!

Very well stocked comfortable house close to the beach
We stayed for 10 days for with our family, including grandchildren. We went to the town beach that is a 15 minute. The house is very comfortable and nicely stocked. The large backyard was great for the kids to play. The deck was nice to spend the afternoon. Rooms are nice, and the house is nicely updated.

Outstanding Narragansett vacation rental! 5 stars
Home is very large for multiple people staying, clean, and well kept. Air conditioning, outdoor eating area and grill, beach mats, and coolers were a major plus in the summer. The property manager was also quick to respond to questions and made check in and check out very easy. Highly recommend!

Family Vacation
This house was a true gem. Very clean, well stocked kitchen (ample plates, glasses, pots & pans and spices). The owners have done an outstanding job updating an historical house. The location was very convenient to get to the beach and the beach passes were an added plus. Narragansett Beach is spectacular. We really loved the outdoor space. The porch and rocking chairs were comfy and a great place to read. The deck was perfect for our family meals. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this house!

About the host

Host profile image
The home is owned by Dave, Josh, and their wives Val and Molly. Since 2002, they have been carefully restoring the home and learning a great deal about this historic property along the way. The Wheelhouse was once owned by the railway developer who connected the New York train system to Narragansett by way of trolley car. In the late 1800's horses were still used to pull trolleys. We've discovered several original horseshoes on the property to prove it! If you appreciate the unique character of Victorian-era homes, you'll understand why we fell in love with The Wheelhouse.

Why they chose this property

We love spending as much time as we can at The Wheelhouse ourselves, so we make sure the house has all the amenities of home for our guests. This house is perfect for a week near the beach during the summer or offseason where you can put your feet up and lose track of time for awhile. With so many great options nearby for dining, the most difficult decisions you'll be making all week are which restaurants to try. If you simply can't decide, we make sure you have all the tools you need to host your own lobster boil, or cook up something fresh and delicious at home.

What makes this property unique

One of our favorites times of day is just as dusk arrives. After a day at the beach, with the sky beginning to turn, we make a point to gather on the deck and porch every evening to enjoy the last hour or so of daylight together. With the cheers of a little league game not far off, it's easy to appreciate the simplicity of a day at the beach, enjoying each other's company, wishing the sun would stay up just a little longer.
