****Dear Canadian inquiries: Please visit the following web page to view rates in Canadian dollars: or if you are on VRBO and reside in Canada, please ensure you switch the pricing icon from USD to CAD for accuracy.

This large home is located in the annex directly across from the Elk River. After spending your day exploring the big outdoors walk a short distance to downtown or snuggle up in the living room by the cozy natural gas fireplace. Better yet, relax on the deck in your own private hot tub or in-house sauna. Built with European craftsmanship, this lovely home is designed to accommodate a family or large group. The separate entrance and enclosed porch allows for easy on/off ski equipment and storage.

Ideally located on a corner lot across from the Annex Park, where you can easily access trails for cross country ski lovers and snow shoeing; and in the warmer months there is premier fly fishing and rafting at your door. No need to mount and transport your bike since the Fernie Alliance Trail System connects to the River trail literally 10 metres away.

Fernie has a spectacular 18-hole golf course and country club dining. The aquatic centre is open for swimming and has its own hot tub and steam room, but we think you will prefer staying "home" to relax in the private hot tub and in-house sauna.

Alpine skiers can either take the shuttle or drive 10 minutes to Fernie Alpine Resort where you will find the best trails in the East Kootenays. This house has been coined by the locals as 'The Lighthouse' since there is an enclosed widow's watch or turret showing a breathtaking and panoramic view of the mountains and ski hill. Watch the sun rise and set as the mountains cast legendary shadows on their bald fronts, or observe the migratory paths of animals across the Lizard Range and Mount Fernie through the spotting scope.

About Nan

Mike and I lived in the Maritimes most of our lives where we owned and operated a modern dairy farm in a small cove on the shores of the Northumberland Strait.

Nan purchased this house in 2005

Why Nan chose Fernie

Our daughter introduced us to Fernie when we came for a visit. We fell in love with the small community feeling and big outdoor living. There is no excuse not to get out and do something, whether it be skiing in the winter or biking, hiking and fishing in the summer.

What makes this house unique

Ski, skate, bike, hike, swim, tube, walk, stroll the town and have coffee at one of the several boutique coffee houses. You will never run out of things to do in Fernie.

Have dinner at a table with a view every night, right in the house.

Highly Recommended

We stayed here for 5 days at the beginning of January. I have stayed at a lot of VRBO rentals but have rarely reviewed, but I did feel compelled to rate this lovely home. It really is a perfect ski lodge, they have thought of everything. The finishings are very high end for a rental home. Top of the line fireplace, hot tub set at 104 degrees and gorgeous sauna as you prefer after a day on the slopes. House was bigger than I was expecting; we had 8 people and there was lots of room whether in kitchen, for eating or common areas. Owners were easy to deal with; we had no issues.

Beautiful Property

  • 5 of 5

We booked this wonderful property for an annual ski trip with a group of seven. Nan and Mike were great to work with and the accommodations provided were extraordinary. Heated floors in the bathrooms, soaker tub in the master bedroom, large shower and each bedroom had a separate sink which was nice. The kitchen was well stocked with all pots and pans needed to make meals and more than enough towels provided for enjoying the sauna or the hot tub on the deck where you could soak after a day on the mountain.

Enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning at the top of the turret overlooking the mountains was a nice touch.

I would recommend this property to anybody looking for a spacious, comfortable stay while enjoying all Fernie has to offer.

I would stay here again next time in Fernie.

Thank you Mike and Nan!

Two friends and I came to Fernie to fly fish. Nan and Mike's place was perfect for us: Walking distance from a nice stretch of the river, close to fly shops and restaurants, and a big, beautiful, well-stocked home to relax in. From driving around town, this looks like one of the nicest homes in Fernie. Everything in the pictures and other reviews is true, and the place is even nicer in person. From boxes of Kleenex in every room, to a dozen towels in or near the sauna, to laundry detergent for the washing machine, the place is more than generously stocked. There is a great mud room in which to store gear, too. And you could comfortably have 5-6 friends or two families stay in the house. We can't wait to come back.

A unique home with a little "quirkiness". Clean and comfortable. Enjoyed our stay very much.

  • 5 of 5

We booked our stay in Fernie for a family wedding. 6 adults and 2 babies (6 months & 8 months). There was enough room to set up playpens in the bedrooms. Each bedroom has a sink which at first seemed unusually but proved to be quite convenient. The living room is very spacious with very high ceilings. The kitchen was very nice and was stocked with the staples we needed and small appliances. Very easy to cook a meal or the home is close to town to enjoy an evening out or bring takeout in.

As we were visiting over the Canada Day weekend, we were able to enjoy the local fireworks display from the very unique "crowsnest". High above the roofline with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The outdoor deck area included a hot tub, but we didn't have time to test it out.

The walking/bike paths are right across a quiet street with easy access to the river.

Nan and Mike were very good and easy to deal with. After returning home, Nan let me know that she had found an earring. I then discovered I had lost both of them. Nan looked again and found the second one too and made arrangements to get them back to me.

It was a very comfortable stay and would definitely stay again and recommend it.
