Modern.Walks direct from the door. Suitable for babies and children.

Lounge, dining area and kitchen are open plan.There is a dishwasher in the kitchen. In the back kitchen is a washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing facilities and freezer. Patio doors lead on to a fully furnished decking area with a BBQ, sun awnings,table with chairs and sunloungers. In a gated area of the garden is an above ground swimming pool (seasonal)

There are 2 double bedrooms and 1 single bedroom/office. All beds have mattress toppers. The bathroom has a wet-room type shower and a bath. There is a separate toilet. Wi-fi is free, phone calls to landlines and mobiles throughout Europe are free. A telescope is provided to view the light pollution free night sky. From the garden is a stile in to a field with pathways suitable for dog walking.

Child gates, baby travel cots (2) a high chair and a booster seat can be provided.

All bed linen and towels are provided.

A welcome pack consists of basic kitchen and bathroom products and also bread, butter, water, milk, wine and some food in the freezer sufficient for a meal.

About CHRISTINE Jenkins

My husband and I had professional jobs near Chesterfield. We came to the Charente area on holiday, we loved the peace and quiet of the area, the stunning night skies and the French way of life. We bought a holiday home in this area 15 years ago which soon became our main residence when we moved permanently to France. We bought this bungalow which is located round the corner 100 metres from our main residence to live in when our stairs and log fire become too difficult. The bungalow did have long term tenants, we now use it as a holiday home for visitors and our growing family. We have 2 sons and 2 grandchildren.

We live in the same hamlet as the bungalow, but not in line of sight. We are there if you need us, we speak reasonable French and can book restaurant tables etc if required.

The property is all on one level, so could be suitable for people with walking difficulties, especially with the wet-room type shower, however it is not suitable for wheelchairs.

The garden is fully fenced, therefore is suitable for children. Dogs by arrangement due to lots of cattle and sheep in the immediate area.The property also has an attached field which can be used by arrangement.

Walking from the door is a pleasure on small quiet lanes and farm tracks. Maps provided. It is possible to walk to the local village in around 30 minutes, mostly on unpaved tracks. The village, Benest has a bread depot with groceries and post office.

The property has secure off road parking for 3 cars.

What makes this bungalow unique

We love the property because it has good views, especially of sunsets. The decking area is a lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine and a BBQ. The above ground pool is lovely to cool off in, on a hot summers day.

Deer and red squirrels have been seen from the garden and wild boar in the woods. There are lots of different varieties of birds including whoopees, birds of prey, woodpeckers and gold finches.

Orchids of several varieties grow locally. In summer lots of fields are full of sunflowers.

The lane outside the house was the Line of Demarcation between occupied and Free France in World War 2. A farmhouse nearby sheltered the 'Cockleshell Heroes'.

Lovely bungalow

We stayed for 5 nights in June at this property. The hosts are lovely people - very friendly and helpful but also respect your privacy. The home is very well equipped with just about everything you will need. It is very clean and well cared for. As we get older we appreciate the English TV but its nice that you can also get French TV. Good wi -fi. A lovely terrace on the back of the bungalow with a very rural outlook. If you want a quite peaceful holiday then this is for you. Highly recommended and hope to return.

The bungalow is in a beautiful and peaceful location with all the facilities needed for a perfect holiday. Christine and Patrick went over and beyond what you can expect of a holiday home with accommodating my two cats whilst moving to France permanently. In fact they very kindly provided me with a lot of vital information regarding insurance so that I was able to drive my car legally in France! Thank you very much Christine and Patrick!

Superb property in a tranquil setting - a great get away for Christmas and New Year

Christine and Patrick made us feel most welcomed as soon as we arrived, they had even kindly gone to Civray Market to pre-order us a Bresse Chicken for Christmas.

It is a clean bright and spacious home .

We had everything we needed even a rolling pin and blender - most useful, plus a meal in the freezer and useful items in the fridge and cupboards so you don't have to worry about shopping before arrival - all very thoughtful.

It was a pleasure to return after busy days house hunting to come back relax and put our feet up whilst watching UK Freeview and cooking our supper.

We would certainly return if we are in the area - Thank you.

Highly recommended!

We spent two weeks July 27th through Aug 9th 2017 in this amazing house. The house itself is excellent, it had everything we needed and more, it is modern in layout and available facilities and spotlessly clean. The house is set in an excellent secure setting, the pool was enjoyed daily by our 8 and 12 year old boys and the gardens enjoyed by all of us (especially our two dogs). The garden/deck has different sitting locations and we enjoyed many lazy days and relaxing evening on the deck.

As identified in other reviews, Christine and Patrick are there to welcome you, provide tons of information upfront and are available to answer questions on demand, but are not intrusive in any way.

We loved it so much, we have already booked our return trip for next year.

Wonderful gite, garden and pool, quiet peaceful location dogs alllowed

This is our second visit in 3 months. Absolutely beautiful gite very well equipped and furnished to a really nice standard, it has everything you need and more it's just like home from home, every detail is taken care of. Very quiet peaceful location beautiful views a great place to relax and unwind. There is a good supermarket about 5-10 mins drive. The added bonus is I could take my 2 little dogs and they loved the enclosed garden. We enjoyed watching uk free view tv in the evenings and sitting outside on the decking looking at the stars. I would highly recommend this and will certainly stay again if in the area.

The bungalow is situated in a quiet area of rolling countryside which is ideal for walking.The nearest village is Benest , it has a small shop/bread depot, and post office. It takes around 30 mins to walk there on small lanes and paths.

Champagne Mouton is 7 kms. A 10 minute drive or it is a pleasant walk through countryside. In the small town there is a Carrefour supermarket, Boulangeries, chemist, doctors and a bar.

Within 30 minutes drive are :

Confolens: pretty town on river with canoes and paddle boats. Restaurants. Folk festival in August.

Ruffec: market town with 2 large supermarkets.

Rejalant: near Ruffec, a pleasant area by the river with a river beach suitable for swimming, canoes which can be hired for 1 hour, or a day and an excellent restaurant over looking the river.

Heisse: small village with an animal park.

La Rochefoucauld: Pleasant town with shops, supermarkets, restaurants and a chateau which is open for visits.

Chasseneuil: A pretty market town with a Memorial of resistance.

Charroux: pretty village with bars and a restaurant. Remains of Abbey open for visits.

Civray: Pretty small market town (Tuesdays) Interesting church with painted interior.

Nanteuil en vallee: small pretty village with abbey (sometimes open) botanical garden (free) 2 excellent restaurants.

Verteuil sur Charente: Very pretty village by river with art gallery, brocante shops, Chateau (grounds open, sometimes Chateau) and excellent restaurants.

Within 45 minutes drive:

Lacs de Haute Charente: large lakes with beaches, restaurant, picnic areas and an Adventure Park (www.aventure-parc.fr)

Vallee des Singes: Just north of Civray is a monkey park, some of the small monkeys will come and eat from your hand (careful they don't steal your glasses!) others are restricted not by cages but by water.

Cassinomagus: open from July 3rd to August 28th. Archaeological Park which has some of the best remains of Roman Baths in Europe.

Oradour sur Glane: The old village was destroyed on 10th June 1944. It is now an open air museum, a sad but very interesting place to visit.

With in 1 hour:

Angouleme: city with museums and excellent restaurants.

Poitiers: city with interesting churches.

Limoges: superb gardens near the cathedral. Famous for the manufacture of porcelaine.

Just over 1 hour:

Cognac: lots of Cognac houses with guided visits. We recommend a visit to a small privately owned Cognac house of Balluet, the tour is free, often by the owner who speaks excellent English.

Futuroscope: just north of Poitiers, a large theme park (www.en.futuroscope.com)

2 hours:

If you wish to visit the coast Royan is around a 2 hour drive and around Royan are some very pretty villages, coves and beaches.

If you like loud music and discos this area is not for you.

If you like exploring the countryside and villages by foot, bicycle or by car you will find hidden gems, bars with excellent food and often live music, lavoirs, splendid churches etc. There is even an English speaking church in the area.
