Sad to say we were not comfortable here
We booked this house for our entire family to stay a night before a graduation ceremony the next day. When the first part of our family arrived, they were told that the electricity was out on the second floor where half of the beds were. They were offered another property down the road, but this property was not nearly as put together and they found a dead rodent in the toilet. We ended up staying in the original location, however had to book a hotel for our older family members due to the state of the house. By the time the rest of our family arrived later that night, it was too late for us to cancel our accommodations and find affordable options elsewhere. The rest of our family members who did not have beds slept on the couches and floor downstairs, as the electricity was never fixed and we also found many dead flies stuck to the walls, making it an environment we did not care to sleep in. Although the host was very apologetic to our first family members that arrived, we never received any other communication or apology over vrbo. We understood that we were booking what seemed like an older home, but were not prepared for or happy with the conditions we found ourselves in. Again, according to our other family members the host seemed sincere and nice and the house certainly has potential, but would need a good clean and updates to ensure it is safe and habitable before I would recommend this to anyone.

Don’t stay here!
On the day we were suppose to check into this house that we had booked, the owner texted us and told us the following. We have two guest houses and one I save for wedding parties. The one that you rented - the people have not left and I won’t have time to get it turned around before your arrival. However, the other one is newer and nicer. It has five bedrooms and three baths. Would you be OK with going there because it is clean and ready? We replied yes because we did not have any other place to stay. The house was not up to standards! There was a room downstairs that had ceramics and crafting in it! The house was so outdated and had not been cleaned in a long time! The inside and outside of the toilets were absolutely disgusting! The showers had not been cleaned! The refrigerator and stove top had not been cleaned! The pillows and mattress’s had stains on them! Trash was left in the trash cans when we arrived! The owner came over on Saturday, knocked, opened the door and yelled anyone home and walked on it! She should not have done this! The reservation on the house that we did rent stated that we could have dogs. When she walked in and seeing our two dogs, she was very surprised. I told her on the house that we did rent that dogs were allowed! Her comment to me was that usually people bring small dogs. I advised her she needed to be specific with the size of dogs on her vrbo listing! I also told her everything that was wrong with the house!

Nice and Cozy
This is a very cozy and accommodating old farmhouse. Lots of beds for several people and plenty of room to move about. Very charming with many unique features. We only stayed the night and unfortunately were not able to take advantage of the outside spaces. We had 1 small issue and Chris was very fast to reply and come take care of it. If you are looking for secluded, outdoors, and quiet, this is it!

Our family lives on the surrounding ranch. We are involved in a variety of farming and ranching operations. We welcome you to visit and enjoy a setting close to Manhattan yet tucked into the Flint Hills.

Why they chose this property

Members of our family have lived here since 1968. Our family moved here in 2006 and purchased the surrounding property in 2012.

What makes this property unique

This guest house is a chance to get away and have a place where your family or group can be close to Manhattan, yet share a private time together with access to common areas of the house. The house is a 1923 farmhouse with a native stone porch, in a relaxing native prairie setting. We say, "it's not fancy, but it's comfortable." It is kind of a step back in time. What we hear most often from guests is that it reminds them of their grandmother's home or how comfortable the beds are.
