Shabby slightly grubby overall appearance - needs a coat of paint
No paper towel in kitchen
No tea towels or hand towels in kitchen
No pot mits
Dirty, greasy range hood, tops & edges of cupboard doors - given the included cleaning charge, paid in advance, we expected better.
Kitchen bench damaged in several places
Range hood light not working
Microwave oven door damaged
Appliance instructions would help
Only 4 dining chairs - accommodates 6?
No bedside reading lamps
Very light weight bedroom curtains (shower weight?) makes sleeping past 4.30-5am very difficult.
No proper ironing board
Shower head falls off when water turned on in ensuite
Not 2 bedrooms - at best 1 ½
Air con tolerable (too warm upstairs is too cold downstairs)
Has the appearance of a house that has been vacated suddenly, not one that has been prepared for paying guests. Other dwellings we have booked through Homeaway/VRBO/Stayz have all been cleaner and had the items listed above.
Hi Sue, Thank you for your comments. We wish you would have reached out to us in regards to your concerns during your two week stay to allow us to address your concerns and rectify them (we could have provided additional paper towels, tea towels etc.). We generally only provide enough materials to get you started. As for the unit overall, given the heritage nature of the area the building is older and it does have a bit more wear and tear due to the fact that it is a short term vacation rental. We continue to make improvements as time goes on and will take your comments to make improvements to the unit. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Ottawa. Yelena and Jason
These hosts are on the ball . The house is in a great location , spacious and well equipped . Wonderful base to explore Ottawa .
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would return in the future.
Lovely place to stay!
Nice accommodations with well appointed kitchen. Great location.
Would look to stay here when returning to Ottawa
I considered 4 stars as the previous ones have done, but have gone with 5 because I would definitely come here again when my wife and I return to Toronto. There is much to like about the place.
Location is great; we returned our car on the third day (of 8) as we were an easy 3 minute walk (short block) to the most common bus we took (#9), and easy 6-7 minute walk to the other two we sometimes took (6 and 7). It is also near several good restaurants; my wife enjoyed SconeWich for breakfast several times; Clocktower Pub and Beechwood Gastro Pub were our two favorites of the others.
The house was very clean, and the towels "thick and thirsty." The outside temperatures were up around 30 degrees Celsius, so the upstairs can get a bit warmer, but what we found helped immensely was keeping the door to the bedrooms shut at all times so that the bedroom stayed cool and the heat did not escape into the hallway and stairwell. So if you are there with warm summer temps, keep that in mind. The wifi also worked great.
The door to the master bedroom with the king bed has a door that slides, but not a pocket door so it does not close completely, and gives a bit less privacy than a traditional door. Since we were the only ones there, not a problem, but something to be aware of. It may not be a problem for many if two couples; we would prefer a door that shuts completely. That stated, if we had gone with our son and granddaughters, we would still stay at the same house. But if with another couple, would make them aware of how the house is. And if going just the two of us, would definitely look to stay here if available. One other thing is that both bathrooms are upstairs, so if stairs are a problem for anyone, that would be an issue; we were ok with that.
All appliances worked great; the TV has Netflix. We do not go on vacation to watch TV, so that there was not news or cable was fine with us; we did watch a little of Netflix.
All in all, we recommend the place and look forward to coming back and staying here again. Since all was well, we had little interaction with the owners, though they are just a few blocks away. I did text and they responded, and I met Jason as we were leaving, and he was very nice.
Great location, modest half house, everything we needed, no TV cable, only Netflix.
