About the host
Hosted by Karey Kumli
I grew up in the Los Angeles, California, area, and moved to San Francisco in my 20s following my boyfriend. We married & moved to rural Mendocino County, where I spent 18 years raising our boys on a sheep ranch, having my own 2nd childhood! When they went off to college, I followed, and in 1997 received a Bachelor's in Biology from Sonoma State University. That same year I bought my sailboat, and have lived onboard in rural Northern Californis ever since.
I am Project Manager for Pacific Manta Research Group, and come to Baja 2-3 times a year for work, meeting the liveaboard dive boats which return recreational scuba divers to port after a week of diving with the mantas of the UNESCO World Heritage site a few hundred miles to the south: Parque Nacional Revillagigedo. I collect manta images for our ongoing research, and incorporate them into our photo-identification database, established in 1993; currently we know over 1300 distinct individuals, have documented that they move among the islands and across to the mainland, and that they live at least 29 years.
Having discovered how much more I can accomplish by remaining at a nice little place like Pueblo Bonito for a week or two before or after my research trips, I bought a few timeshares. I'm happy to share my unused weeks with you!
When I'm not hard at work on this project, I may be found playing with my granddaughters, sailing, kayaking, hiking, or traveling out of curiosity about the rest of the world.

Why they chose this property
A friend owned at Pueblo Bonito Sunset for quite some time before I was able to stay. As she really loves the place, I wanted to visit, found a rental to give the place a test, and immediately bought in. The initial draws was the proximity to Cabo San Lucas' marina and bus stops, while being over the hill out of range of the nightclub noise and sometimes pushy beach vendors in town. Walking on the beach can captivate me for hours. And the whole place is just adorable!
What makes this property unique
My first Oh Wows were upon gazing at the artwork in the lobby, it felt like a marvelous museum. Looking down from the lobby at the resort tumbling & swirling over the hillside to the beach, I smiled, as realized whimsy was afoot as well.
In our room, the width of the patio permitting us to sit outside with books & papers made me utter a sigh of relief - I didn't want to be stuck inside with the computer work that gives me the excuse to be here. The big refrigerator and blender were good pals, as I'm vegan and produce takes up a lot of space.
Call for a lift - Rides up & down the hills in the carritos can be thrilling! They hold 8 people (4 during Covid19), and offer a fun way to meet folks.
We were able to hold small meetings with local colleagues in the indoor and outdoor lobbies, without feeling we were taking up too much space.
The beach walk in the morning is tranquility itself, and in the evening you can sometimes see the little mobulas, or popcorn rays, playing in the waves just before they break.
When you visit, please let me know the highlights of YOUR experience!
