About this property

SunsetLodge Rustic Lakeside Cabins & Lodge with Sunset Views for Reunions/Groups

Sunset Lodge, built in 1919, will return you to a bygone era. Sited on the Eastern shore of Lake Damariscotta on 14 acres of rolling lawn and woods, with 510 feet of pristine water frontage (with great fishing and fabulous swimming directly in front of the property), two dock/floats, a small sandy beach and beautiful sunset views to the west, this property is perfect for family reunions or for several families who want to vacation together, enjoying the peace and serenity of one of Maine's most beautiful lakes. The Lodge has an 80 ft long screened porch for eating or just sitting in the evening to hear the loons. The Lodge has 5 bedrooms (all with a view of the lake); 4 bathrooms, a newly remodeled large and well-equipped kitchen, a large room for group activities, and a new 620 square foot game room with pool and ping pong tables. The Lakeside cabin has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Judy's cabin has 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. There are 2 small 1 bedroom cabins with bathroom. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, utensils, barbecue and wood stove for cool evenings. All cabins have screened porches. There is a shuffleboard court. There are canoes, kayaks and a sunfish to rent, for an additional fee.

Great Fishing: Sunset Lodge is fortunate to be located on Damariscotta Lake, one of the great fishing lakes in Maine. It was sited in 1919, so it's one of the best on the lake. At over 4,000 acres, the lake is large enough and varied enough to please any fisherman, as it has pleased this fisherman for over thirty years.

Take your kids, a few worms, and motor down only a couple of minutes from the cabins. Schools of perch feed in the evenings. Small mouth and large mouth bass can be found along the shorelines throughout the lake. If you like to troll, brown trout, lake trout and land-locked salmon hide in the deeper parts of great bay, straight out from the cabins. There are also large yellow perch, catfish and pickerel. Over the years, it's been a pleasure to fish this lake. Come to Sunset Lodge and share the pleasure.
-- Don Dougherty

Great Swimming: The water is great. Swim off the beautiful new docks or from the shore. Take a morning or evening swim up or down the the lake with its interesting shoreline and eagles flying overhead.

Great Boating: You can't beat the Damariscotta Lake for boating. Sailboats, motorboats, rowboats and windsurfing all popular on this 10 mile long lake.

The property has a shuffle board, a ping pong table, a pool table and lots of games and puzzles.

Amazing spot to enjoy Maine with the whole family
We had such a memorable trip to Maine and really loved the chance to stay with our full extended family in one property. The property itself is on a beautiful part of the lake with (as you may expect) wonderful sunset views. The main cabin is perfect for hosting meals and hanging out with the entire family. The two fridges and sinks were clutch with this many people. We also loved the game room! Esp on a rainy day.The kyacks and paddle board were really fun on our sunny days. The smaller cabins were fairly rustic nit very "Maine." Overall, it was a very special week for our family!

a memorable family vacation
My two brothers, my sister, and I gathered our families together at Sunset Lodge for a week of connection and fun. We swam, fished, kayaked, sat around the fire pit and cooked s'mores, played ping pong and pool, shuffle board and foosball, swam some more, knitted, put puzzles together, cooked, ate, made a family movie, swam and swam some more, baked and celebrated an anniversary, played guitar and sang, read books, played nukem, told stories, played games, watched sunsets and loons float by. We reconnected in a beautiful place that offered us the space and activities to build special memories. We are so grateful to Noah for providing Sunset lodge for our family. We hope to return. Sunset Lodge is a special place.

Beautiful rustic spot right on the lake for family reunion.
Beautiful sunsets, fishing, kids playing at the beach. Nights around the fire pit roasting s’mores before the kids ran off to play in the game room. Fun for everyone. Cabins are rustic and cozy. Lodge is more updated with amazing screened in porch and large kitchen. The property was pretty with flowers in bloom. Was pleasantly surprised at how much closer cabins were to each other. Great spot.

The Maine Camp
We had a great time at the camp. Plenty of space for the 5 families and great for kids. With the private beach area and dock, it made it fun for the kids. The main lodge was great for dinner gatherings and game nights for all. Our host and the onsite manager were super nice. I would definitely recommend the property for large families with kids of all ages. Thanks Tom

Beautiful lodge on Damariscotta in Maine
We spent a wonderful week at Sunset Lodge on Lake Damariscotta in August 2020. Vickie, Noah, and Karen have created a beautiful and welcoming space. We were three generations together but socially distanced from the rest of the world. The lodge was perfect - a large, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, 2 large family rooms with more seating than we needed, and a game room with ping pong and a pool table that were well used during rainy afternoons. The lake was beautiful with minimal power boats; we canoed and kayak'd on the days it did not rain; we saw deer, fish, loons, and an eagle. The stars were beautiful at night with the big dipper hanging low above the water. The lodge feels remote but is close to towns and the coast. We ate wild mushrooms from the Camden Farmer's market one night and lobsters from the Round Pond Co-Op another. Hoping to make the Lodge an annual tradition in the future!

About the host

Sunset Lodge is owned by four families who have vacationed together on the lake for 22 years, first renting and then at Sunset Lodge which they purchased in 2002. Restoring the Lodge to its former glory has been an 18 year long process.

Why they chose this property

Sunset Lodge is unique. It is large enough to accommodate family reunions and groups, and provides five separate buildings for sleeping. It was originally built in 1919 when they had their pick of sites on the lake. The Lodge is sited on the eastern shore at the widest part of the Great Bay where the lake is a mile and a half across, and the sunsets are glorious.

What makes this property unique

Sunset Lodge was one of the first resorts built on Lake Damariscotta and we think it was sited on one of the best spots on the lake. This is a unique and magical place that will have your heart after you see it, just like it has ours.
