About this property

Loft with Breathtaking Panoramic Water Views

The Loft is perched at treetop level and affords panoramic views of the river and surrounding marshes. It is located on a secluded peninsula just 5 miles from Bath, Maine (The 'City of Ships').

There is a hiking trail along water's edge and also kayaks or canoes for rent to explore the waterways.

Refinished with knotty pine walls and flooring the Loft has a comfortable cabin feeling while offering breathtaking panoramic water views.

There is a queen size bed in the bedroom and pull-out couch in the living room.

The kitchen is complete with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee pot not to mention all the pots, pans, dishes and utensils you will need.

The Midcoast area of Maine is known for its miles of white sandy beaches and Lobster wharfs where you can enjoy their famous lobster dinners on the dock as you watch the lobstermen bringing in their catch for the day. What makes the midcoast so appealing is the fact that you get to enjoy all this without the crowds. You will love the slower pace of life and the pristine beauty of this untouched area.

Worst place I have ever stayed
We arrived at 9:30 and there were no sheets or towels. It is in the listing it said they were provided. The place was dirty, full of dog hair on the blanket thrown over the bed, cob webs, a lot, in the bathroom and bathroom, huge ants everywhere. It said coin operated washing machine. We contacted the manager and she said it was 12 minutes away! The water smelled so bad of sulfur that it made me sick when I took a shower. The toilet was stained so badly it needed replaced. All of the furnishings looked like they picked them up along the road. The bed was so lumpy and squeaked very time you moved. When I texted her my complaints when my granddaughter and I left she wrote back and said the place is the way it is so that anyone can afford it! What the hell does that mean. I was able to find another apartment that was delightful and well taken care of, presentable furniture and clean. I had to pay $600. The decision she made was to give me back my pet deposit of $50 because I made it clear that I didn’t bring my dog and the cleaning fee of $50. I want all of the money back. We were there Sat night and Sunday leaving Monday at three. I have stayed many places in Maine over the years and never had to leave one of them because so many things were wrong. Please tell what the next step should be.

Awesome view and great space
The Loft at Back River Bend is a unique and charming space. The high ceilings and wall of windows overlooking the bend in the river provide always-moving beautiful views. The Loft is well appointed with a rustic feeling and very comfortable furnishings; overall this is a Wow! And the hosts were always responsive and attentive. Thanks, Katie!

Loft with great views
My husband and I rented this place for a week. We really enjoyed our stay. It was quiet and surien. Reids state park was awesome and not far at all from where you are staying and comes with a pass so you don't have to pay. There is also a lobster warf and little shops near by as well. My only complaint was the bed was a little worn and not that comfortable and no washer or dryer or microwave 🤔

About the host

Hosted by Katie Francis

Host profile image
We, Sam and Ruth Francis, are the owners and hosts of eight rental properties in Georgetown, Maine. We have four wonderful grown sons and are proud grandparents. We worked for years to finish our timber frame dream home at the tip of the peninsula. We have past the property management part of the cottages to our son, Chris and his wife, Katie.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this unique fifty acre property with its half mile long peninsula over thirty years ago. Since then we have lived here and operated a traditional wooden boat shop. Over the years we have built six charming cottages, as well as, converted a Sailor's Loft to a rental with breathtaking, panoramic views. We also, offer the home that we first built and lived in to renters, with it's ideal location at the tip of the peninsula with deep water frontage and a private dock. We have added other touches to our property with a garden house, ten slip boat dock, a hiking trail and clearings for fishing and picnics.

What makes this property unique

The cottages are situated to allow privacy but also to maintain the quality of the open, natural spaces. Each cottage overlooks the marsh and adjacent Back River which flows off the mighty Kennebec River and nature conservancy land beyond.
