About this property

Historic Silverton Downtown Loft

Gorgeous, upstairs 2 bedroom, 2 full bath loft-like apartment in the center of all the action in Silverton, Colorado in the heart of the scenic San Juan Mountains. Remodeled in 2017, this spectacular space offers panoramic views of the mountains and the main street of town from all windows, particularly from the loft like living room-kitchen area. The Greene St. Loft sits at the front part of this historic 1895 brick building, overlooking the main street of town. Decorated by a professional decorator, this apartment offers the perfect mix between antique, vintage, and modern decor.

Fully equipped kitchen with marble countertops, brass fixtures, and new appliances to include gas range, microwave, dishwasher, and French style full-size refrigerator. Dining table seats six. The original soda fountain cherry wood back bar graces one wall of the living room and provides storage for crystal wine glasses, tableware, family games, and books on the history of the area. Vintage soda fountain bar stools seat four at the marble bar countertop.

Comfortable couch with Samsung 40" Smart T.V. with Netflix + more available. Situated between the living room and kitchen is a majestic heat producing gas fireplace. Original 124+ year old hardwood floors, 11 foot high ceilings and 5 large almost floor to ceiling windows make this living room space stunningly bright and beautiful! It's a perfect combination of vintage meeting urban modern. Wi-fi included throughout apartment.

The private master bedroom's queen bed is luxuriously made with two down pillows, two firmer pillows, a duvet covered down comforter as well as a cotton blanket on a plush, pillow top mattress. An antique writing desk, dresser, two end tables, and a full length mirror complete the room's decor. The master bedroom is equipped with a 40" Samsung Smart T.V. and BluRay DVD player. Attached master bathroom provides a glass wall shower, deep slipper tub, and tiled heated floors.

The second bedroom, also private, has a plush, pillow-top queen bed, down pillows and comforter, cotton blanket, and a new (2021) Smart Roku T.V. The second bathroom is a full bath with bathtub & shower, heated floors, and is located off the main hallway, just around the corner from the second bedroom.

Both bathrooms feature amenities by Beekman 1802 Fresh Air Collection to include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, and lotion. Infused with honey, these products are warm and pleasant. The Beekman 1802 Fresh Air amenities line contains essential oil derivatives of bergamot, ginger, tea, and wood musk to give all the products a pleasant earthy tone and appealing smell anyone can enjoy. Beekman 1802 products meet environmental standards and are made from ethically-sourced, natural ingredients.

Full size stacking washing machine and dryer are on main hallway. Laundry soap provided.

Winter guests please note that the Greene St. Loft is close to skiing at Kendal Mountain Ski Area (a family ski area a less than a mile away), and Silverton Mountain Ski Area (for advanced and expert skiers 2 miles north). Purgatory Ski Area is 22 miles south with runs for all ability levels.

This apartment is located on the corner of Greene Street and 13th Street. To access the unit, guests must be able to handle the stairs located at the back of the building on 13th Street. Silverton's elevation is 9,318 feet, therefore the stairs can be a challenge for some. There is no elevator and guests must bring their luggage, groceries, etc. up the stairs. Skis may be stored inside at the bottom of the stairs.

There may be an opportunity to book this unit along with the 13th Street Loft, giving you room to sleep 6 on the same floor. See VRBO listing # 699318, and the calendar showing availability. The 13th Street Loft is a studio with one queen bed, full kitchen, dining area, and bathroom with shower. It sits at the top of the stairs, a hallway's length away from the Greene St. Loft. Both lofts have their own locked door and share a common locked door at the street level.

About the host

My husband and I purchased this property in our 20s and operated an old fashioned soda fountain and drug store in the retail space while living upstairs in this apartment. (The apartment did not look like this at all then.) We renovated the apartment in 2017-2018. We are retired now and rent out both the Greene St. Loft and at the 13th Street Studio as vacation rentals. We manage to squeeze in some time in both apartments during the year. The cherry wood back bar and the stools were moved upstairs from the former soda fountain.

Why they chose this property

My family has been in the San Juan Mountains since the 1800s. My great grandfather, James William Jarvis, owned a ranch at the southern end of San Juan County and I spent time there at the ranch and in Durango during the summers. Several of my mother and step-father's family lived in Silverton during the late 1880s into the late 1930s. My mother and step father owned a home in Silverton on Reese Street for decades.

What makes this property unique

This is a historic building that was built in 1895. It is unique to be able to stay above a retail space, right in the center of town, and still have spectacular views from all the windows. While the upstairs Loft has been renovated, the floors are original and are over 125 years old. The plaster was removed from the walls to reveal the beautiful, original brick work.
