About this property

Minutes from Attractions, Miles from ordinary

Have you ever sought perfect balance? Close enough, but not far away... Rustic, yet modern... Cozy, but still spacious... A bit of peace in the mountains, but with the perfect proximity to town? The Elk Antler Inn is a new, fully-renovated cabin in Benezette that offers guests the feel of a rustic retreat along with the ease of close proximity to some of the town's best attractions.

Situated along highway 555, just on the outskirts of downtown, The Elk Antler Inn welcomes elk-watchers, families, happy (or unhappy) couples, hunters, fishermen, outdoor enthusiasts, wine connoisseurs, moonshine lovers, collectors of antiques, or anyone interested in what our beautiful area has to offer.

The cabin has two wildlife-themed bedrooms, the "Bear Cave" and the "Deer Trail," each with a queen bed; there is also a sleeper sofa available in the living area for extra guests. For our culinarily-inclined guests we have installed a brand new, modern kitchen equipped with (hopefully) everything one would need! There is a full refrigerator and freezer, gas range, oven, and microwave and for the outdoor cook, a propane grill. All utensils, pots, pans, plates, serving dishes, slow cookers, blenders are provided so that all you need to bring is food and drink. The seating in the living room includes new Ashley Furniture, including a (sleeper) sofa, love-seat, and recliner; the centerpiece of the space is the beautiful propane fireplace, surrounded in cherry, which will not only contribute to the ambiance, but will also keep everyone warm and toasty (who would have thought building a fire would be this easy???). For those rainy days, Dish Network is available on the flat-screen television, which sits on top of a custom piece of furniture made from locally-sourced hickory and horse shoes. There is also WiFi available for those of us who need to be connected! The bathroom features a shower with a waterfall, spa-type shower head, a modern sink, and commode, with a beautiful cherry accent wall.

The front porch is cozy and has seating for two while providing a view of the mountains, as well as a front-row seat to watch the activity at the Nuthatch Studio across the street, where local artists craft various pieces of art, including one-of-a-kind carvings from logs using various sized chainsaws. The more spacious back porch overlooks a fire pit area where guests can use the custom-built cooking surround to grill their favorite foods over the open fire or just relax and toast a marshmallow. Beyond the fire pit area is several acres of wooded land where the elk herd like to travel and the woodland birds flock, there is a swing fixed to the back deck that allows guests to sit back and watch our majestic wildlife move through their natural habitat.

If you only can spend so much idle time watching wildlife, The Elk Antler Inn is also close (really close, in fact!) to local attractions. Moonshine? You can walk there. Cafes and restaurants? Less than one mile. The local winery? Less than one mile. The stunning Elk Country Visitor's Center? Well... 2 miles. There are PLENTY of other gift shops, antique shops, wineries, and restaurants within reasonable driving distance... just ask us for recommendations!

If outdoor adventures are your thing, The Elk Antler Inn is close to hiking trails, equestrian trails, snowmobile trails, fishing spots, state game lands, kayak/canoe waters, scenic overlooks, and just plain gorgeous scenery. We have spent years hiking, fishing, and hunting the area and are more than willing to highlight maps, give directions, communicate experiences, and share the best of what we have been so blessed to experience here!

We hope that we have created a space where people are eager to come and spend some time away from their routines. To bask in the glory of nature, to feel small next to the mountains, to feel a quickening of the pulse near wildlife, and a sense of peace hearing the rush of water.

We sincerely hope that you will spend some time with us, just to spend your time being in our woods, experiencing our animals, and loving every second.

Cozy, cozy, cozy!
This was our first time spending more than a few hours in Benezette. We stayed from Sunday to Tuesday and the weather was unseasonably warm for November. The cabin was so clean inside. We loved all of it! We couldn't light the pilot on the gas fireplace, but we didn't try for too long as the living area was so cozy we didn't need it for ambience. The couches were comfy and the bed in the Bear's Den was dreamy. We didn't see any elk at the cabin but our visit was after their peak season. We did see a herd of 27 at the elk viewing center though. The cabin is on Rte 555 but there was hardly any traffic and we never heard anything outside. The kitchen had everything we needed even though we didn't cook a whole lot. Plenty of space though if you would want to prepare a feast! I highly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for some relaxing, time away. Cell coverage is sketchy, but that was one of the main reasons we came up here, to unplug from everything! We would stay here again.

Getaway
Very clean and cozy- nice back yard, grill and firepit. Very nice for 2 couples! We recommend installing a fan in the bathroom and a blind in the bear bedroom. We loved our stay! Thanks!

Visit to Elk County
This cabin was conveniently located and provided the necessity needed in a cabin. We had a great trip and saw a Big Bull Elk across the street from the cabin.

About the host

Hosted by Bryan Lukehart & Jennifer Helman

Host profile image
An unlikely pair, Bryan grew up in Marion Center, Pennsylvania where he was raised on the family farm, tending to fields, and hunting and fishing when he got the chance; Jennifer grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, and when she came to Indiana County, PA to attend IUP, she fell in love with the outdoors and never left the area.

Bryan's family has a camp on Wolf Lick, and since he was a child, Bryan grew up fishing the streams in Elk Country, and hunting bear and whitetail deer in the abundant State Game and Forest Lands. Needless to say, Bryan's roots as an outdoorsman run deep, and still today, he is an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper.

Almost a decade ago, Jennifer was introduced to Elk Country by Bryan's dad, Ed, and the two have put on countless miles photographing elk and sightseeing. Despite growing up in the city, Jennifer developed a deep love for the outdoors, she is an avid trail runner and hiker, and also likes to hunt and fish.

Why they chose this property

We we "window shopping" on Mother's Day of 2016, on our way back from taking care of one of our other cabins, when we saw the "For Sale" sign in front of this place! It certainly looked a bit different, and after closing in July and after 8 months of renovation and rebuilding, we ended up with a place that we are sincerely proud of. The location for us was perfect! Close to town, but enough space to have some privacy. We just hope everyone enjoys this cabin as much as we have had building and crafting it into what we feel is a mountain getaway, close to town!
