My cottage is located on the shores of Lake Erie. The location is perfect for viewing the lake, taking long walks through the vineyards, swimming, or just sitting on one of 2 porches and putting uour feet up! You can reach the lake by taking a 2 minutes walk down a set of stairs or a hill. We are 2 miles from the North East Marina, where you can launch a boat or take a fishing charter for the day. The close-by Freeport beach is a short walk and has a playground, picnic area and volleyball court! Welcome to Flash's Place!

This cottage was built in 1958 as a one room fishing cottage. Flash (our father) was an avid fisherman and worked as a police officer in a suburb of Pittsburgh. He built the cottage one room at a time. We spent all summer at the lake as children and loved running the beach! To this day, our family continues to love the cottage and truly hope you will have enjoy your time here.

Why they chose this property

How to access the beach:

When you exit the cottage and turn to the right, you will find a set of stairs in the left corner. Feel free to use those stairs or walk down the hill you drove up. If you choose to drive down to the beach, you can park by the park, which you can find by following the road around the beach. Please don't park in front of the barrels. There are two entrances to Orchard Beach off of Rt. 5 and you can follow the beach road to either entrance.

Driving on the beach is 10 miles per hour. Residents are very picky about drive slowly up the hill as children might be playing in the area.

How to turn on and turn off the air conditioning:

The white remote has a red button. Just push that and you're set! You can adjust the temperature with the up/down arrows. Please remember to turn the air conditioning off when you leave.

Laundry:

The washer ONLY takes high energy (he) laundry soap. Please be sure the bottle is labeled "he". The door of the washer isn’t quite lined you might have to just lift the door a bit to get it to latch correctly. You will hear the washer lock.

Fire Pit:

Feel free to use the fire pit in the yard. Please do not use the gas grill. Please be considerate of our neighbors and shut it down by 11pm.

Blankets and Towels:

There are extra blankets and sheets under the bed in bedroom number 2 in containers. Extra sheets are also in the bottom drawers in the dresser of bedroom number 2. You will have towels left on each bed

What makes this property unique

Mid-september is Steelhead fishing season:

The steelhead begin to school in the lake off the creek mouths about mid-September. The fish will enter the creeks any time thereafter, if the flow of the creeks is adequate. The number of fish in the creek, particularly in the fall, is heavily dependent on the amount of rain the region receives. If the fall is dry, the fish will get only a short distance up the larger creeks, and may not enter the smaller creeks at all. As a result, in a dry year most of the fishing for steelhead will be right at the mouths of the creeks, in the lake at the creek mouths, or in the holes that are a short distance up the in the larger creeks. Erie has a beautiful fall. With the often fine weather and the fish concentrated at the mouths, the fishing pressure can be intense. Venture to the mouth of Elk or Walnut Creek on a warm weekend day in mid-October you will be greeted by hundreds of anglers trying their luck for steelhead.

Steelhead in the fall are usually the most energetic and exciting. The fish are generally "fresh" from the lake, and have a brilliant silver appearance. The water is still warm, and the fish are aggressive fighters
