About this property

Hilltop Retreat with Spectacular Mt Views

Built in 2005, a 3 bedroom custom-designed retreat in Craftsman/Adirondack influenced style.

House overlooks 10 acre field and commands sweeping 180 degree views of surrounding hills and the higher peaks of the White Mts. Property spans 65 acres and abuts conservation land. Rural setting just 10 minutes from downtown Plymouth. Two decks allow for maximum enjoyment of the view and pastoral setting. Great for outdoor meals, sunsets, foliage season, or watching hawks and swallows wheeling in the wide open sky. House is a wood-work-lovers delight and is designed to allow views from every room. Living room has lofted ceiling with massive Douglas Fir truss-work, cherry floors, and sleeping loft to allow larger parties. Relax in the glow of the woodstove while watching the sunset.

Kitchen/House Details: Fully stocked kitchen allows serious cooks to be creative: complete with solid surface counters, butcher-block, and high quality cookware. Handwoven Asian wool carpets adorn the hardwood floors throughout. Master bedroom has high, trussed ceiling, view deck, and large bathroom with a walk-in glass block shower. Many custom built-ins and a mix of new and antique furnishings enhance the cutting edge design of this unique house.

Other info: The house has 3 units. Helpful and welcoming caretakers live below in separate apt. Tower shown in photos goes with another apt. --not included in rental. No smoking *Anywhere* on property, please. House is two hours from Boston and about 15 minutes from route 93.

Major cell networks such as ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon seem to work very well at the house.

Get to know the classic New England town of Plymouth, NH. A regional center with a State University.

Perfect Zen getaway
This was our 2nd stay at Matt's Hilltop Retreat, and again we were struck by the serene, calming atmosphere of the space. To us, it has the perfect blend of rustic warmth and modern openness. All, of course, enhanced by the breathtaking views out the windows. We come to NH mainly for hiking, but we found ourselves making sure that we got back in time each day to sit out on one of the decks and take in the view before heading out to dinner. In all other respects we have no complaints. Just as the 1st time we stayed, it was spotlessly clean, well appointed, and Matt and Jordan, the caretaker, both reached out and were friendly and helpful. In all, Hilltop was again, the perfect getaway!! Thanks Matt! Sue and Nat E.

Home away from home
The furnishings and amenities at the house were superior, practical and comfortable. The house was cosy and the setting was peaceful and beautiful. It was the perfect place for my family and another to get together. I will sum up our stay as follows - it felt like the owners shared their home with us, not just a house or property that they are renting out.

Absolutely Gorgeous
This place is beautiful. The views are unbeatable and the house itself is amazing. Everything you need is included (linens, TP, paper towels, dishes, cookware, staples in the pantry, etc.). Matt (owner) and the property caretaker were responsive and friendly. The only semi negative thing I can say is the WiFi is not great, so if you have children with tablets, maybe download a few shows/games before arriving. Cell reception was good so we were still able to look things up on & use our phones. Overall, we highly recommend this place.

About the host

Host profile image
This property has been in our family since 1968 and the house is the 2nd to stand on this location. The land was the largest of 4 lots which comprised a farm which dated back to the colonial era. The 18th century farmhouse is located on the road just down the hill from our house. Of the original 255 acre lot bought by our family, 89 acres are still ours, while most of the rest is now town land, donated by my parents and others as conservation land open for public recreational use. Most of our remaining land is now under conservation easement, with hiking and skiing trails open to the public connecting to trails on town land.
