No response from owner. At all. Terrible experience
Great location and proximity to downtown Swansboro.. However the lockbox was not in good repair and we were unable to get into the home. The owner or manager was not responsive at all and never got back to us. The home is older and not very well kept. I would not recommend Renting with this owner. Terrible experience

Big house in the perfect spot
The owner was incredibly helpful and responsive. There was plenty of space and bathrooms for the group we traveled with. The yard is great, the parking was great, and the location is unbeatable. It was super neat to stay in one of the historic homes in Swansboro, and see these old homes being so well cared for. I have read a few things about the air conditioning. It got warm sometimes (stayed in September), and I bet it'd get cold in there in the winter too. Plan accordingly.

Southern Charm Where Memories Are Made
This property was very accurately described and pictured on the website. You can tell that a lot of love went into every decorative element in this house., a feel good kind of home. You also have all the amenities that you could possibly need in this property, you just have to bring yourself and create everlasting memories with your loved ones. This property is also in walking distance to all the little shops and restaurants that are in historic downtown Swansboro.

Swansboro home
the property was very nice, the stay was excellent except for the thermostat reset temperature at night and away, the A/C could not catch up after it reset itself. I like it cool and understand the home owner trying to save energy but not while i am paying for it.

About the host

Hosted by Carla Reed

Host profile image
I literally spend most of my time travelling the world so consider myself a global citizen! My parents moved to South Africa from England and I was born in Johannesburg. Since my early childhood I have had a wanderlust - in fact I recently found a travel journal that I kept when I was 10 years old, and traveling in Mocambique. As a child we had a family 'week-end escape' - a historic country home that had once been an old school house, an asparagus farm and later a week-end retreat . I have fond memories of family gatherings there for holidays and special occasions - as well as simple moments sitting by the river and watching the local birds. We also had a seaside retreat at one time - again, a place for friends and family to get away together and enjoy each other's company.
Since those early days I have literally traveled around the world many times, (That is me in Rio - the one in black) always attempting to find accommodation at small hotels, bed and breakfast and guest houses that reflect the local population and cultural differences of the location. Based on my experiences I have tried to create a 'home from home' for the guests that choose to stay in my house in Swansboro. My goal it to establish a setting in which everyone feels comfortable to put up their feet, relax and unwind - recreating the wonderful escapes of my early youth.

Why they chose this property

Since relocating to North Carolina in 1990 I have enjoyed the wonderful coastline this state offers. I discovered Swansboro at the end of the 1990's and vowed to secure a piece of this living history. I was fortunate to acquire the 'Methodist Parsonage' in 2000. At that time the almost 100 year old building was faded and worn. Since then I have spent many years restoring the house - and updating it to meet the needs of the 21st Century. I love the atmosphere of this small coastal fishing village - at the gateway to the Crystal Coast. I appreciate the views across the sound, with the passing watercraft serving as a reminder that this is a gateway to many other locations accessible through the Intercoastal Waterway. The close proximity of the beaches of Emerald Isle, Salter Path and Atlantic Beach are another attraction. And then there is the never-ending process of discovering new gems along the waterways - for example, Bear Island with its pristine beaches and turtle nesting grounds, kayaking between the tiny islands of the sound, walking down to Ward's Shore to watch the dolphins - or casting a fishing line. Every day holds a new adventure and surprise - even for those who have called Swansboro home for many years.
And then there are the ongoing Festivals - music and art events, Thanksgiving and Christmas, July 4th festivities. Every month has something to look forward to.

What makes this property unique

One of my favorite things about the house in Elm Street is the proximity to everything. I literally park my car, throw down the keys, and walk everywhere for the time I am down there. The variety of restaurants is surprising for such a small area - Mexican fare with water views, fresh seafood at the Ice House or Captain Charlie, Gourmet Coffee and great sandwiches at the Church Street Deli, a glass of wine at the Irish Pub - or an 'on tap' beer. And across highway 24 - a short walk under the bridge - yet another selection of restaurants with water views and a choice of Italian, American and Family Fare.
And even the men in my family like coming down here - while the women folk explore the many fascinating shops they walk down to the pier with their fishing rods, enjoy a cigar at the local Cigar Lounge or catch up on sports activities with cable TV.
Last - but not least - I love to buy some fresh seafood from Phillips Seafood - a walk across the bridge - and cook up a feast in the modern kitchen - or on the grill in the private back yard.
