About this property

The Old Goat Shed, character petit cottage perfect for two!

Stylish French Holiday Accommodation with Optional Dining from an award winning Scottish chef, at our new pool house and pool terrace!

The Old Goat Shed is the ideal ‘get away’ gite, restored with taste, sympathy and style; this is truly a little piece of holiday heaven.
The cute lounge / diner has a log burning stove, electric radiator, TV (UK and French / European channels), iPod / CD player, comfortable chairs, and extremely well appointed kitchenette with hob, combi-microwave oven and fridge, with freezer compartment, as well as everything else you would expect to find in a romantic rural gite.
Also you have a very comfortable princess and pea bed as we call it, built over the old manger, we've provided an antique armoir and chair as well as copious amounts of storage under the bed itself, just off the bedroom you'll find a well equipped shower room with w.c and sink with a storage unit.
Moving outside the Old Goat Shed, you have your own private terrace with table, chairs, parasol and a stone BBQ for alfresco dining. We have surrounded your terrace with old vines and flowers to ensure you as much privacy as possible. As well as all this guests staying at the old goat shed have use of the summer kitchen equipped with a plancha and an electric oven, why not enjoy a romantic evening meal here or enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun set.

Just steps away up the stone stairs you will find our new 9 metre by 4 metre heated swimming pool and terrace with plenty of space and sun loungers aplenty, as well as the Swedish log burning hot tub with open views over the countryside – a real relief after a days hiking in the country side or peddling along the many cycling routes on offer right on your doorstep.
Later on why not reserve your table with Richard and enjoy a relaxed informal dinner/lunch or drinks or why not just pop up for a chat

An excellent Loire gite in restored historic property.
This is an excellent property. The only problem was locating Bois Mort from Gorges. The location appears to be not Garmin GPS friendly. But this was quickly remedied by the owner. This is a delightful spot. We spent six pleasant nights. Many Loire sights easily reachable in day trips. Very relaxing place to return to and host Richard charming, helpful and a very good cook. We would highly recommend this spotless, expertly restored historic property for a Loire region stay.

Short break in idyllic haven
We stopped off on our way down from Calais to Bordeaux but unfortunately it wasn't for long enough! We had booked three nights and were greeted by our host Richard who immediately made us feel right at home. Waiting there for us was warm bread, homemade jams and a bottle of local wine, perfect. Throughout our stay Richard was very attentive, even down to his small corner shop, we could recommend the local lamb and chicken, homemade jams and chutneys, along with a host of the bare essentials that are easily over looked! The finish of the property was quite outstanding, everything had been thought about and in the short time we were there it seemed to epitomise all that Richard aspires to deliver. We would love to return and explore a little more of, what is, a stunning part of France.

Wonderful gite and host, highly recommended
We have relaxed in a lovely area, enjoyed barbecues just outside our door, slept well in this peaceful area and enjoyed the hot tub late at night watching the stars. The gite had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, it was tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, well stocked and perfectly formed. The gardens were beautifully colourful with very interesting plants on which our host was knowledgeable All appliances, and there was everything you could want, worked well and the mobile signal was strong with great wifi Richard, our host was very warm, friendly and helpful, he even made us a wonderful meal one night, nothing was too much trouble to him in ensuring our stay was relaxing. He was also very knowledgeable about the area for visits, markets and shops We do so hope to return soon The best French gite we have ever had in fifteen years of visiting this area.

Perfect in every way.
The Old Goat Shed is a perfect gite for 2. It's very well equipped, has a lovely comfy bed and a wood burner for chilly evenings. The garden is well looked after plus there's a pool and hot tub for guests to use. Richard, our host, made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble and he will cook for you on request, which we took advantage of and the food was delicious. We enjoyed our stay so much we have re-booked for next year.

Superb Rural Gite
A quiet peaceful gite just perfect for our two week stay! It was very clean, comfortable and well maintained. The kitchen is very well equipped not that it was used except for making cups of tea! Instead we took advantage of having our evening meals provided by Richard who is a great chef and wonderful host he couldn't have made us feel more welcome if he tried. The garden with its beautiful flowers, grape vines and vegetable patch are neat tidy and well kept. The above ground pool and hot tub are cleaned regularly and also well maintained. A beautiful rural area with some lovely walks and cycle routes. In the words of Mary Poppins "Practically perfect in every way!." Thank you Richard.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi my name is Richard Smith, I'm a chef from Scotland with a passion for all things French, living between Edinburgh Scotland and Bois Mort in France allows me to indulge in my passion for cooking which i can share with my guests in the form of the privservice i offer at my holiday cottages in Bois Mort, i also love my Potager where i grow almost everything for my dishes, and I'm fortunate enough to buy all my meats and produce locally which means I'm only using the finest I'm a keen chicken keeper too!, the girls often help me around the gardens!

Why they chose this property

We bought our own home here at Bois Mort in 2009, and just fell in love with the area, a year or so later our very aged neighbour Maurice had to go in to a retirement home due to failing health, we were given the opportunity to purchase his crumbling old house with its derelict out buildings and decided we had to rescue them and bring them back to life, the results are we now have Maison Maurice and the Old Goat Shed and we are absolutely delighted to able to share them with our guests.

What makes this property unique

The hamlet of Bois Mort is located in the rolling countryside of the Deux Sevres, a very peaceful department of France and when we stumbled upon this area we instantly fell in love with it, stunning walks, the beautiful river, charming old villages, fantastic cheeses, local wines and produce and the locals where just so open and friendly and made us feel so welcome we knew that we had to make a home here, well we have!, and wouldn't change it for the world, we hope when you visit Bois Mort you'll feel the same way too!
