British Columbia is located in the far western part of Canada. It is easily accessible by air, land or sea, and a favorite Canadian travel destination for many visitors. The city of Vancouver is cited as being one of the most beautiful in the world and the greater metro area is home to more than half of British Columbia’s total population. Vancouver International Airport is said to be the second busiest in the country and hosts a wide range of international, regional and domestic airlines.
British Columbia is known for its wide range of adventure activities and outdoor recreation opportunities. The world-famous ski resort of Whistler is within easy driving distance of Vancouver and a year-round vacation destination. In the summer months, you can mountain bike, hike and enjoy excursions on ATVs. In the wintertime, the snow-covered slopes transform into one of North America’s premier skiing and snow sports destinations.
Further north, you can explore glaciers, mountains, and waterways, and visit cozy communities and towns. Whale watching along the coast is a popular pastime. There are even places where you can go sea kayaking with orcas and other whales in season. Dolphins also frequent to coastline and can be spotted on excursions. Cruising is a very popular way to explore British Columbia’s coastline. Many international cruise liners dock in Vancouver before heading up or down the western coast of North America.

The best time of year to visit British Columbia will depend largely on your interests and the activities that you want to take part in. The skiing resorts are open from early December through April, depending on snowfall. The same resorts open for the summer season from June through September. Whale watching occurs at different times of the year, depending where you are on the coastline. Cruising is most popular in the warmer summer months but there are several cruise liners that embark on winter cruises.
In general, British Columbia attracts the type of traveler who enjoys adventure and the outdoors. It is a very beautiful part of Canada. It is well equipped with outfitters and resorts offering a variety of different activities. Skiing enthusiasts visit in the winter months and in the summertime, they are replaced with mountain bikers and hiking enthusiasts.
