Fly Fishing and Animal Viewing are Tops: The house is rented in June mostly to families or photographers seeking to see the wide variety of wildlife in Yellowstone. The house is located just 20 to 25 minutes from the Lamar Valley, considered by many as the Serengeti of North America. June is the month when the snows are leaving the mountains and the animals are having their babies, especially the elk, wolves and bison. The saga of hunter and prey plays out daily as the bears coming out of hibernation are eager to find food. The wolves are raising puppies at this time and that keeps them close to the den sites of which there is always one or two in or near the Lamar Valley.

Fly Fishing begins in July, sometimes early but often not until mid-month. As water levels subside the fishing with dry flies gets better and better. There is probably no better dry fly fishing in the US than in Yellowstone, where native Yellowstone cutthroat trout inhabit most to the streams in the NE section of the Park. There are occasional rainbows, but are considered an invasive species, so bring them home for dinner. East of the Park and our house is the Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone which is filled with rainbows and brook trout, and provides easy fishing and wading. .
