About this property

The Sun House at Freshwater Bay: Oceanfront

The Sun House at Freshwater Bay.

Come enjoy the Sun House at Freshwater Bay. Situated oceanfront in Washington’s most beautiful no-bank beach community, the Sun House is the perfect place to unwind from city life. Listen to ocean swell endlessly grooming the river rock and sand beach from your second story accommodation. Taste the salt air, and let your stress melt away.

Look west, out to the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Pacific Ocean, then let your eyes follow the distant shore of Vancouver Island, past Victoria, and the San Juan Islands, to the marvelous peaks of the North Cascades. In summer, the sun streaks across the sky, warming the beach and illuminating the offshore commercial shipping traffic, before finally setting over the glistening ocean horizon.

It’s a short stroll down the beach to the mouth of the Elwha River. Here Coho and Chinook salmon offer the viewer and angler seasonal delight. With the rhythmic cycle of the salmon, come bald eagles, a plethora of seabirds, and river otters. If you get lucky, catch the Orcas playing out front, or more commonly spot herring balls, sea lions, and seals fulfilling their roles within the unique coastal ecosystem.

For those who come for recreation, the opportunities are limitless. From mountain biking and sailing, to hiking, mountaineering and fishing, the greater Port Angeles area has an amazing variety of activities at your fingertips. Widely known among surfers for having the best point breaks in Washington State, the Elwa River mouth is prone to deliver when tide and swell align in harmony. On more mellow days, enjoy Kayaking, Tide Pools, and exploring the many miles of beach to your heart’s content.

Only 15 minutes away, the Olympic National Park stands in awesome splendor. From glaciers to rainforests, the park is truly one of a kind. In winter, enjoy downhill and Nordic skiing at Hurricane Ridge. When the summer rolls around, enjoy thousands of miles of hiking routes through protected wilderness, or simply drop by Lake Crescent for a swim in perhaps the most beautiful lake in the continental United States.

Approach the property via Place Road, as it switches back past the mouth of the Elwha River, narrowing, then snaking amongst the storm swept cedars. Weave past a handful of beach houses to your private getaway. You will know you found paradise the second you arrive.

The Sun House is 1196 square feet of beachfront fun. It encompasses the top half of the house, as the bottom half is a separate space and not included in the rental. Completed in 2005, the new construction features massive weather pane windows, vaulted ceilings, hardwood countertops, and a gorgeous river rock gas fireplace. Every room in the house has unstoppable views out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca and 100 feet of low bank frontage. In the evenings, enjoy a glass of wine on the huge hardwood deck, or set out a romantic dinner of fresh crab.

Please note: Renters must be comfortable with a tall staircase to enjoy this property, but the view is worth the climb.

Bliss-filled!!
We absolutely loved staying in this bliss-filled space and place. Hearing the waves crash as we went to sleep, walking on the beach, coffee on the deck… I could go on and on! Suffice it to say, we WILL be back, and I can’t wait!!!

Amazing Stay!
Our family spent our 1st Christmas in the PNW here and it was wonderful. The views from the house were amazing. To be right on the beach, and be able to see and hear the waves crashing was so nice and relaxing. The house was clean, cozy and had a perfect set up with everything you could possibly need. Thank you for sharing your home with us. :)

We are a young family with a passion for the outdoors. The Sun House at Freshwater Bay is a dream escape for us. On our visits, we enjoy crabbing, surfing, fishing, hiking in the park, mt. biking, and alpine ski touring around the Hurricane Ridge area.

Why they chose this property

This was our primary residence from 2006 to early 2012. We moved closer to Seattle based on work schedules. It is our pleasure to offer the property for vacation rental, so others may enjoy what we came to love.

What makes this property unique

The beach. The beach. The beach... and the view.
