About this property

Owl’s Hoot Chalet – ideal location 3 miles from National Park! Renovated 2023!

Welcome to your own Smoky Mountain retreat! Owl’s Hoot Chalet is a contemporary western cedar home with an all-glass prow front on 6 acres, including a 5-acre meadow, part of Rich Mountain, and an exclusive 1-acre dog walk area.

Owl’s Hoot is a comfortable, well-appointed home…not another cookie-cutter, look-alike, strip-down rental unit with black bear décor made in China. It is tastefully decorated with local works of art, antiques, comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful amenities for the discerning traveler. Our unique décor reflects the natural beauty and serenity of the mountain setting and the Smoky blue namesake. Our guests are surprised to find the many extras that make Owl’s Hoot Chalet truly feel like a home away from home.

The main level offers a spacious, open kitchen/living/dining room combination with cathedral ceiling, fireplace (wood provided), and massive windows. The kitchen was remodeled in 2022 with custom blue cabinets, premium Vicostone quartz countertops, and new lighting. The livingroom features comfy NEW leather recliner sofa, recliner loveseat, and tables. An LCD smart TV with Roku, satelite TV, and DVD will entertain you after a day of adventure.

Two charming bedrooms (one queen + 2 twins), a full bath with skylight and tub/shower, and new (2023) washer/dryer closet round out the main level.

Upstairs, the open-loft master bedroom features a queen sleigh bed, plus a unique circa-1800s sleigh daybed, with new bedding, rug, and décor added in 2023. A luxurious spa bath is adjacent, with a skylight, 2-person/8-jet jacuzzi, vanity, and shower - remodeled and redecorated in 2023!

All beds have comfortable memory foam mattresses and are encased in bedbug and allergen protective covers for a refreshing night's sleep.

Let your pets roam on the spacious, gated wrap-around deck or in the meadow. Enjoy a glass of wine in the private pavilion. Listen for the owls late at night. The 6 acres of woods, meadow, and creek are the ideal playground for children and pets!

Owl’s Hoot is located in a quiet mountain hollow near the center of Townsend, just 3 miles from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and within 30 miles of Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, TN. Yet guests often remark about its private, secluded setting. Convenient + serene = ideal!

PETS: Note that Vrbo automatically quotes the fee for only 1 pet if you indicate that you are bringing pets. Our fees are: $85/one pet, $110/two pets, and $135/three pets. Please let us know how many you plan to bring so that we can charge accordingly.

Owls Hoot retreat
Wonderful property. Great proximity to national park and local attractions, but far enough away to keep you out of traffic! Home was very well appointed with little extras like coffee/tea/condiments, books, games and toiletries. Great beds and furniture, clean and organized. The location, view and outdoor areas were spectacular. Again the little extras like charcoal, firewood made the difference. Pet friendly -all the decking and gazebo had gates so you could enjoy the outdoors with your pet contained in the same space. We will be booking again.

Great location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was in a good location, tucked away from a busy area, but close enough for a scenic drive to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Plenty of room for a group of people and very accommodating.

Myra and Rob are pleased to offer our family cabin, which has been in Myra’s family since it was built in 1992. Rob and I met several years ago, hiking in the Smokies, one of many outdoor activities we enjoy. We were married in the meadow at Owl’s Hoot in April 2012. We live in nearby Maryville and seek every opportunity to “work” at Owl’s Hoot.

When we’re not renovating and managing our homes, Rob and I enjoy travelling, gardening, movies, cooking and eating, arts and crafts, live music, and adoring our grandkids. Our family includes a Blue Heeler and a Mountain Cur/Blue Heeler mix (both rescues), who love to play in the Owl’s Hoot meadow!

Why they chose this property

I grew up in nearby Maryville, and my family has a long history in and deep love for Townsend. My mom, Jo Hendren, founded Hideaway Cottages and Log Cabins in 1979—providing the very first rental cabin in Townsend. She and my stepdad later bought 20 acres in the same mountain hollow to save it from being sold to a strip-mall developer. They divided the property into 11 lots, restricted the design and placement of cabins to preserve the ecological setting of the hollow, and built Owl’s Hoot on one of the lots in 1992. I helped my mom manage Hideaway Cottages for several years. They eventually sold the business but kept Owl's Hoot in the family, with Myra and Rob managing it since 2013.

What makes this property unique

We focus on anticipating our guests' needs and providing the amenities you want and need. Spices, locally ground gourmet coffee, and tea; detergents, cleaning supplies, ample paper products; organic, eco-friendly, spa-grade toiletries; and area resource books, novels, games, and puzzles. We have encased all box springs, mattresses, and pillows in bed bug, allergen protective covers. Just think of all the things you don't have to bring or buy or worry about. Now that's value!

In addition to our love for Owl's Hoot and its peaceful setting, Rob and I bring unique qualifications to managing a rental cabin and providing the best customer service to our guests. For starters, we own and manage a few other rental homes, and I have 40 years of property management experience. Rob is a home improvement specialist. In addition, I wrote hundreds of articles about decorating and landscaping for HGTV and learned a lot along the way.

In 2013 Rob and I took over the management of Owl’s Hoot, which had been managed by two other local management companies, because they didn’t meet our standards for cleanliness and maintenance. We’re always making improvements, but you can count on this: Owl’s Hoot will be clean, very comfortable, and better appointed than most Townsend cabins. All that, in a relaxing setting with beautiful views.

What does our experience mean to you? It means that you get attentive, timely service and a tastefully decorated, well-maintained vacation home. Hey, you’re on vacation. You deserve to be spoiled!
