The property is set on a hill top, surrounded by coffee plantations and cattle ranches, offering peace, tranquility, “pura vida” and spectacular views of San Jose and the Central Valley, both night and day.
The home has a traditional “colonial” layout (U shape), with two distinct wings that are separated by a beautiful garden courtyard, complete with fountain and tropical plants.
The North wing offers a large, fully equipped kitchen with prep island, and breakfast bar. There is also a beautiful dining room, an indoor laundry area with washer and dryer and utility sink.
Down the hall you will find one of the 2 large master bedroom suites that is wheelchair accessible.
The South wing features another large master suite, and 3 more spacious bedrooms that share a bath. A 'on demand' hot water system was installed and provides lots of HOT water for showers throughout the house.
The middle section of the home has a large living room, complete with a 47 inch HD LCD TV, ample seating, desk, custom tray ceilings, and huge windows to take in those great views of San Jose and the Central Valley.
Stretching the entire front of the house, you will find a wide “rocking chair” front porch, that also features a dining table and four chairs, perfect for having your morning coffee, watching the sunrise, or enjoying evening cocktails while you view the Central Valley city lights in the distance.
Through out the home the rooms are spacious and airy with high ceilings. Built in the year 2000, to USA standards, our house has all the comforts of back home. Some of the many features of the property include: 47 inch HD LCD TV with International cable with HBO, Cinemax, CNN, ESPN, as well as many Spanish networks, Wi-Fi high speed Broadband Internet, a solar heated swimming pool that is surrounded by a tropical landscape for your privacy, a five person Jacuzzi Spa with 50 jets and digital temperature control, rancho complete with dining area, large stainless steel BBQ grill, hammocks and exercise equipment! There is also an outdoor fireplace next to the swimming pool so you can enjoy the cool Atenas evenings by the fire while you take in the amazing view.
Atenas has spring like conditions all year round. The daytime highs are in the 80’s and the lows at night are in the 60’s. The two master suites have air conditioning and all the rooms have ceiling fans. There is always a nice breeze and the temperature is mild so you rarely need the fans or air conditioning.
There is a full time Gardener who works from 6 AM to 12:00 noon Mon- Fridays. Our multi-lingual Property Managers, Aad and Marian, live nearby and can be reached by phone to help with any questions that might arise during your stay. They will do anything possible to make your stay a success. They can even arrange custom tours, through their travel agency, and they also offer a airport pick up or delivery service if you notify them ahead of time.
Every Friday morning Atenas has an open air Farmers Market that has an abundance of fresh fruits, huge variety of vegetables, cheeses, fresh flowers, plants and herbs, fish, pork, chicken and home baked goods available for purchase. Atenas also has three supermarkets, several banks with ATM’s, several pharmacies, a number of sodas (small restaurants) that serve breakfast and lunch and many wonderful restaurants. One of our favorite gringo hangouts is Kay’s Gringo Postres where you can have breakfast or lunch and meet many local ex-Pats who live in the area.
Since we are centrally located there are many attractions within driving distance so it is very easy to take day sightseeing trips. (Ask about assistance with transportation needs.) In the living room, you will find a Notebook with information about things to do in the area with brochures from many of the Central Valley attractions. Also in the Notebook is a Yellow Pages of vendors in the Atenas area. You are less than an hour from Poas Volcano, the nearby LaPaz waterfalls and Butterfly Farm, San Jose Museums, San Jose Amusement Park, Jaco Beach and other less touristed central pacific beaches and Casinos. You are just over 30 minutes from Escazu, an upscale city, that has the MultiPlaza shopping Mall with many posh restaurants, wonderful shops, and multiple theatres. A few hours to the north of us is the Arenal Volcano and Monteverde Cloud Forest.
The property entrance is on the main Highway#3 to Jaco so we are easy to find and you do not need to drive on dirt roads. There are also some nice places to hike near the property. On a clear day you can also see great views of the Pacific Ocean on this hike.
