Literally just behind the house is North America's largest cross-country ski resort, Royal Gorge. In the summer you and run, hike, and mountain bikes its trails. Fantastic sledding is conveniently available along the side of our property. Adults can join in the snow fun or watch from the deck as the kids sled, snowball fight or build forts in the snow. Multiple downhill ski resorts are just minutes away! From Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Resort, Soda Springs Ski Resort to Boreal. Northstar and Squaw Valley USA are just a little further! In addition, we have cross-country skis and boots available for your use as well as sleds for closer to home activities. You can sled on the lake for free as well as along the fire-trail by the Lodge.

Summertime is just as spectacular with activities such as bike riding (bikes available at the house), strolls around the lake (2 miles), swimming, fishing, laying out on the beach (sand toys and umbrella available), canoeing (yours to use and parked conveniently on the lake shore), kayaking (one man kayak located in the garage), BBQing on the deck, hiking, and much more!

We enjoyed our stay at the Capone Getaway. This 5 bedroom/3 bathroom house plus a loft provided plenty of space for our family gathering. The kitchen is filled with everything we needed plus some. The location was perfect for us in Soda Springs. A few drawbacks were: (1) The cabin entry was very icy so we had to remove and de-ice the iced over rubber mats before our family arrived so no one would slip getting into the cabin; (2) Some of the beds were too soft and pillows should be replaced; and (3) There was a whole checklist that we had to complete before leaving, which seemed excessive. Otherwise, it was a fabulous long weekend.

Winter get away!
Great location, was accessible with all the snow, property behind for sledding, plenty of room for parking. No surprises, web site was accurate for amenities. Lots of extra gear for winter and summer play. Wonderful!

Great location for beginner skiers
My family of 5 adults and 6 children stayed for 3 nights. It was perfect for us all. Kids loved having their own space in the loft. The place was clean and with a well equipped kitchen. We all had fun shedding on the Property behind the house. We skied at Donner Ski Ranch which was perfect for our beginner skiers and only 11 minutes away. Plenty of room for 3 cars in the driveway. Roads were well plowed since we received about 3 feet of snow over our three nights there. We may rent this property again in the summer since it is across the street from the lake. Glad we brought all our food because I don’t believe there is a major grocery store near by. The place is well used and well loved and very comfortable for us. It was a perfect winter getaway for our family.

Great location and cabin
Love the place and the locations but this was the first time I was at a place that required us to strip the beddings. Overall great experience!

We currently live in the Bay Area and enjoy the outdoors. We are a family of 4. Living in the Bay Area, we feel it's important to slow things down whenever we get the chance! Visiting the Sierras has always been an enjoyment for us. We love that Serene Lakes allows for great winter and summer activities. We literally mountain bike and run from our back yard in the summer. And in the winter we cross county ski on the lake or at Royal Gorge which again is behind our house.

Why they chose this property

Having known next to nothing about the Serene Lakes area, we agreed to visit a friend who purchased a cabin there. We instantly fell in love and decided to buy a place just down the street. It works out so well for us since we love the outdoors but also enjoy the serenity this place has to offer. It's a few hours outside the Bay Area but just far enough away from the madness of Lake Tahoe. We love it here and especially the fact that it accommodates large groups! It's a place to create many unforgettable memories and experiences.

What makes this property unique

There are so many activities that we end up doing throughout the year on our visits. There's downhill skiing, sledding, crosscountry skiing, mountain biking, running, rollerblading, hiking, walking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and of course dinners and views from the deck! However, the main goal is to relax and take in the fresh air with good friends and family!
